Two friends who follow recruiting a lot closer to me told me recently Fultz would announce soon and it would be UK. We will see if they are right or he wants to play where he's the big fish.

Matt Jones has hinted at some good news this weekend. Wonder if that's a coincidence, or if this is what he was referring to.

I'm betting it's Washington though, after the rumors that they were coming on strong and he just visited them this past weekend.

I don't know. I get that feeling as well, but it's been known for a long time that Fultz would only take 3 officials, and that Kentucky wouldn't be one. There's also the fact that they invited Boogie Cousins into their home for dinner.

Eh, possible. Good pickup for whoever he joins up with. Fox, Monk, Bridges, and Ayton, come on down.

If true, I'm not shocked.

I always thought that if Fultz really wanted UK, he was going to have to wait, unless he was willing to walk into a situation where UK might sign someone at the same position, and he might not even be a starter. Some highly rated kids are willing to do that (Marcus Lee being a great example), but most aren't. UK wants Monk, UK thinks it can get Monk, and UK isn't going to stop recruiting him, no matter who else might be interested.

But we'll find out soon, either way.

I really think UK is locked in on Monk and Alkins for the SG position. Wouldn't surprise me at all if both are at UK next year. Alkins can play some SF, too.

Which is a difference between him and Fultz. Alkins has to weigh at least 210 (I'd say more- he's a hoss). Fultz is a typically lanky 2 guard. And I think it helps that Alkins seems to be in no rush with his recruiting. Fultz is good, Alkins might not be any better as a prospect, but Alkins makes more sense for UK..if UK even needs another wing. If UK can pull Monk, Fox, and Bridges, to go along with Mulder and Matthews, I don't think UK really needs any more at 1-3.

Wonder what happened if he does indeed end up at somewhere else other than UK? Everyone seemed to think he was a near lock for us, then one day he just wasn't. Ever any confirmation to the "UK cooled on him" rumors? I mean, other than the typical "We didn't want him anyway." chatter that you find on message boards and social media.

Ben Robert's last tweet:

Official list for tonight's Markelle Fultz announcement given to me by ESPN: Arizona, Louisville and Washington. ... No Kentucky.

Do u all even follow recruiting? NO WAY IN HELL Cal wouldn't take Fultz ahead of every recruit mentioned here! He's the highest riser and biggest name out there right now guard wise. He's listed as the first guard taken in his draft class.

Because Fultz is the kind of prospect that I don't understand why anyone would just back off of, short of a kid like Monk being ready to give you a commitment.

Yeah, I've heard that. Doesn't really answer my question though.

I think at one point he was our number 1 priority at SG. We obviously wanted Monk and we were in a tough battle with Arkansas for him. After the stuff hit the fan with Arkansas, we put the full court press back on Monk. I believe he will be here at UK. Things change quickly with recruiting. Monk and Alkins are our priorities at SG.

Fultz would be a great pick up. I think he's as good of a guard as the rest we are recruiting.

Yeah, as the hypochondriac pessimist that I am, that's what worries me with recruiting though. As of this moment we're the supposed "leaders" for several great prospects, but as the Fultz recruitment has seemingly shown us, things can change in an instance. You're the leader for a recruit until you're not.

Beats me. No one on here was really denying the fact that they would of liked to have had Fultz locked up. Well, not until he picks a school other than UK tonight anyway. Then we'll hear about how overrated the kid is, and how we didn't want him anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have him in blue. The 16 class is top heavy with amazing guards. We should all know by now not to worry about recruiting with Cal here. He usually gets who he wants. Monk is UKs numero uno priority at SG, with Alkins right behind him.

One day I'd like to see a kid (Preferably not if it involves UK losing someone.) pick a school who wasn't among the hats/supposed final list of choices. I mean, talk about keeping things a surprise and having your moment.

Odd that Fultz isn't even supposedly listing UK as a finalist though. You'd think like most kids that go elsewhere that he'd want the added publicity that having Kentucky as one of the hats on the table brings.

We expect to lose Briscoe and Murray, but not definite. (injury)
No one at the other 3 who would play ahead of Flutz even if all returned next year.
A no brainer if major pt is to be guaranteed.

Consider this a good thing that he didn't list us in his final 3. Then you won't have idiot fanbases saying, "Ohhhhhhh UK loses another recruit. John Calipari is losing his touch." If we aren't getting him, I would rather not be in the list of schools he is choosing from.

@TWalkerRivals: UK wanted Fultz. They prioritized other guys (why they offered late) but they would have taken him. Fultz seemingly just wanted the offer.

@jerrymeyer247: If Markelle Fultz does announce Washington, it's stunning that Kentucky mismanaged recruitment as the dream school. https://t.co/2x7hCrK2Qb

Lol. Cal and "stunning...mismanaged recruitment" don't belong in the same sentence.

Does Jerry Meyer know something about recruiting that Cal doesn't?

This crap will never stop. No matter how many rabbits he pulls out of hats, haters are always ready to pounce on the ones who were perceived to have gotten away.

I'm personally fine with it. Saves me the stress of refreshing my computer every five seconds. Just caught me by surprise that he didn't try to lure in more eyes to his announcement.

Do not count Cal out against Coach Romar, Cal has stolen his lunch money several times.

Sounds like it won't be UK. Lame.

But hopefully this opens it up for De'Aaron Fox and Rawle Alkins.

It used to be Cal was the "Dean" of Point Guard U. Not sure with Cal's record of putting them in the league Fultz made the best decision. It's his career. He may make it, he may not but geez if you're a point guard why would you pick someone else....

I'd dare say Cal could teach him more about being a point guard while he played a shooting guard or wing... jmo

The "we didn't want him anyway" and "he's not good enough to start" excuse all in one post. That's golden.
