I say go for Smith and Baker.

Pg- Green / Baker
Sg- Diallo / Smith
Sf- Vanderbilt/ Alexander
Pf- Washington / Gabriel
C - Bamba / Richards

That's a 10 man roster I can live with

I'd be thrilled to end this class with Bamba/Smith/Baker. A backup combo guard that can shoot and a deadeye backup 2-guard is a perfect fit to go along with the athleticism and defense (assuming we get Bamba) next year's team will have.

If two out of three of Alexander/Smith/Baker emerge as reliable subs, then we'll have a lot of versatility and interchangeable parts that's been lacking for a while. Diallo could play some 3 and Vanderbilt 4 in a small lineup, or we could go massive with Bamba, Richards and Washington all on the court. And if Gabriel or SKJ bulk-up and improve in the offseason, then all the better.

I really like the way this team's coming together. Gotta seal the deal with Bamba, though.

I'd rather have Johnson and one of Smith and Baker. We need some experience in the backcourt.

G Green/Alexander
G Diallo/Johnson/Smith or Baker
F Washington/Vanderbilt
F Bamba/Gabriel
F Richards/Killeya-Jones/Wynyard

Solid 12-man roster.

He'd be in the same boat as freshmen... he doesnt know how to play Cal's style so he's basically inexperienced.

Im thinking he takes both if he can..

Would love to see UK land both. Smith gives UK yet another rangy 6’5”-6’6” wing in the same park as Diallo and Alexander. Baker has lethal perimeter potential. I think Cal wanted a second guard besides Kevin Knox (if UK landed him), and thus it appears your position is correct on Cal wanting both Baker and Smith. Smith fills the Knox spot, and Baker fills the additional combo guard spot Cal had desired the entire time.

Potential depth on UK roster:

6’0” Green

6’5” Diallo

6’9” Vanderbilt

7’0” Bamba

6’11” Richards

Bench assortment (assuming Humphries goes pro in Australia):

6’8” Washington; 6’11” Killaya-Jones; 6’9” Gabriel (if he returns); 6’9” Wynyard; 6’5” Smith; 6’2” Baker; 6'6" Alexander.

I like the depth and versatility with that group. You get a bit of everything. Washington and Gabriel obviously give UK a massive advantage off the bench as potential utility/ do-it-all-in-spurts types.

Disagree, to a certain extent.

Johnson already knows what it takes to be a college bball player. He already knows how to balance classes and athletics (graduating with a 3.9 gpa). Also, keep in mind he has played for two different coaches. He had to learn a new system when Stallings came in.

It will still be an adjustment, but not as much of one as it will be for the Freshmen, other than Diallo.

Also, the kid can shoot. And we need a kid that can shoot. We don't have one. Green is our best shooter and he is a pass first PG. Teams are going to pack it in until we prove we can shoot it. We need Johnson to keep the defense honest.

I think he starts for us. I don't think he comes here to sit the bench.

If he doesn't hear from Cal that he will start or at least play starter minutes, he will go elsewhere. I know that Cal doesn't make promises about starting, but I think he will have to give this kid some kind of assurance that he starts or at least plays a significant role or Johnson goes elsewhere.

I have said it before but people on here are getting goofy (and stupid) with the Smith stuff. He's a decent long-term prospect.

I have seen him play multiple times in the area. He's a very good high school player but has major areas to work on. His defense is subpar, he isn't in great shape, is an average athlete. He's a nice player but not anything that will be a difference maker at UK at least for 2-3 years.

Johnson is FAR and away superior to this kid.

I would take Johnson first, then Baker, and then Smith.

We just need one of the 3 and get Bamba and let's roll.

If Smith is out of shape and dunking on people and draining 30 footers like its nothing with a quick release....imagine what he will be like when he gets into shape!
