Wasn't Doron Lamb initially a 4-star until he signed with us? Think he got a bump up to 5-star in the final update. Might be wrong on that, but still... I'd take him over any of our star SGs over the past 5-6 years.

I take this as saying that Briscoe is definitely gone, of course I could be wrong. But if Cal is meeting with players and now all of a sudden he shows interest to this kid, it screams to me that Briscoe is give.
If the 44 percent from 3 is correct that's exactly what we're missing next year. Anyone notice that crazy dunk he had halfway through that video, deceptively athletic!

Not 44%. For some reason the stories give averages for everything except three pointers, for which they give total makes.

So if we get this guy, pretty much means no Briscoe or Knox right? Or am I completely wrong? Wouldn't be the first time

If Green is a 2 year player and Shai is a multi year player I like this Mark Smith kid . With Shai and mark may be a pair that UK can build on.

Does Cal have a guy that is specifically in charge of recruiting as in locating recruits across the country like Stoops has in Berezowitz? If so who is he? Not sure how the b-ball staff identifies their guys. thanks

Couldn't hang in there that long to watch it. Every word in that trash called music started with N, F, or B. Good looking upside with this kid though. Has a nice looking jump shot.

After watching our guards year in year out guys like this look really slow
Fine by me if he plays his role. If we have a point guard that can drive into a zone, which then collapses on him like a zone should, then kick it out to him for an open 3, and he can hit it, that'll fill a definite need.

This recruiting class doesn't have the star power (yet) that others have had but I love that there's more than one guy that I think will be around longer than a year. I don't think we'll be a juggernaut next year but we'll be competitive and we'll have a hell of a returning group to hopefully go with a killer '18 class. Cal's definitely looking to the future.

I really like his size. He reminds me of the Cumberland kid on UC's roster.

This looks like a great, college guard who can give us minutes while developing.

UMM would post something negative when everyone around here clamoring for a multi-year guy. ** maybe it was objective, but you're not finding Fox's speed/quickness anytime soon **

I appears to me that the overall perception is that he is UK's if we want him... Illinois fans have been humbled to reality, "gawn" used too many times, I hope it doesnt become popular here.

Any reason we don't offer?

Probably would mean Briscoe is gone, but it leave two open scholarships for Knox and Bamba.

Don't think it means much with regard to Knox. They won't play the same position.

We're losing Fox, Monk, Briscoe and Hawkins and we have three guards coming in. Seems logical we'd add a fourth.

Knox is a wing. Vanderbilt is a wing. Washington is a combo. Gabriel is a combo.

Plenty of room for everyone, especially when you figure that SGA and Smith wouldn't likely get major minutes as freshmen anyway.

Also, people act like a top-80 kid in the country is some out of nowhere emergency plan. Speaks to how incredible our recruiting is.

Who knows? We definitley will have available rides.

One thing I learned in covering recruiting is all the many intangibles we fans do not consider or are not privy to:

Is another school already a lock
Personal attitude
Coachability
Handlers
School legitimacy
Grades
Limited to one hand
Will scholly this year prevent a better player next year numbers wise

and more...

I think we have proven over the years speed does not necessarily bring a NCAA title. It is nice on the highlight reel though. I would love having a few shooters for once. Just to see what would happen.

A decade ago we would've been begging for guys like this.

And some folks want to stock the roster with these kind of guys too. I think Smith is the perfect kind of prospect to build roster continuity.

He's good enough to help now and not get buried, but not good enough to bounce after a year.

He physically belongs. This isn't like some 2-star 5'9 son of a coach who can't guard or get his shot off but "makes the smart play." This is a guy who looks the part.

He can shoot, drive and defend. He's played against good competition.

I want this kid. He is Mr Basketball in a good basketball state. He is the kind of player who can put a dagger in the opponent from 20 feet. He is fundamentally solid and could be the missing link.

So if UK is reaching out to other guards does this mean that they know Briscoe is leaving ?

Crazy how these kids come from no where so late in recruitment
Not really. As other recruits fall to the side, anyone in need a particular position start to fall in love with a guy that normally would not be a second tier player.

Desire meets availability. Kind of like the lonely girl at the end of the bar near closing time. No one else to take home, might as well talk her up.

Type of players I want mixed with the Burger boys..
exactly, players of his build are less coveted by the NBA. Recruit high level bigs and PGs and add in guys like this that provide stability. I think Cal is starting to go in this direction with this class.

Wow is he really 230? We've had centers that don't weigh that much. I hope he's rock solid, baseball isn't known for keeping you in the best shape.

Hell, come on down kid.

He definitley does lack athleticism that we are used to. His handles are suspect and doesnt appear to be in bball shape, both of which can be attributed to focusing on baseball for the past several years.

He can definitley add strength while getting leaner and has a sweet shot with range, probably has a more old school game than flash and sizzle, which is ok with me.

yup, we got our last title being led in scoring by Doron's old man game. Dude knew how to come off screens better than any player in the Cal era.
