Let this guy die on this hill. It's political. Everyone with a brain can see that.

The P5 must become its own entity going forward ASAP.

Covid or not, you don't pull your product off the market and just say 17 you to your constituents.

This is more than just football. I mention this because you say the P5 must become its own entity moving forward. Why the P5 when lots of schools outside the P5 are wildly successful in D1 sports?

Also, are you complaining about Emmert cancelling fall championships? Give some context to your thread, man. Are you really this upset that Women's D3 Vball wont have a championship?

It's a farce. plain and simple. The sate with the strictest mask mandate is Hawaii.

With a record 355 cases of COVID-19 recorded Thursday, Hawaii Gov. David Ige said he’s looking at the possibility of re-establishing the stay-at-home order and delaying the relaunch of trans-Pacific tourism through a pre-travel testing program, set to begin Sept. 1.

Yet they still have far fewer cases than any other population center with comparable density. I know Hawaii is a bit of an anomaly, but how does such a large and very social population with such high density, and thousands of visitors each day from Asia (before the travel restrictions, but also after the outbreak), have such a low infection and even lower death rate? Interesting for sure.

More than just practice and intramurals, too? Because that is still going on. Why is the 3 hours on Saturday in full gear and equipment so much more dangerous? It makes no sense.

Yeah. It makes absolutely no sense at all to keep practicing if you've decided it's too dangerous to play games. The whole point of going to conference-only schedules was to ensure everyone was playing with the same set of protocols. If it's safe enough to practice, it's safe enough to play.

They do not. Hawaii has the fastest infection rate in the USA without Tourism. Even Hawaii admits it :

“We’re in a very dire situation,” said Dr. Tim Brown, an epidemic tracking expert with the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s East-West Center. “We’re seeing COVID spread out throughout the population.”

Here is the issue. We have a lot of hypocrisy here. Either we believe the hype or we don't. If you actually believe the hype, why are we pushing for football to be played? Just don't care about those kids and their families???

If the players were in a bubble (like the pro sports are, at least, attempting) and they can find a way to keep the fans away, it's about as low risk as you can possibly get. I think SEC schools can pull it off. But while you can keep players in a bubble, the trainer, coaches, grad assts, and all cigar puffing jock sniffers are not going to have to stay in the bubble... so that could become a problem.
Again, the SEC could pull this off if they have all the teams have access to the three hour test that is reported to be pretty accurate. T.V. revenue will be tremendous and we could live with not being able to see a game at DWS for at least one season.

I dont follow what you are asking.

You started this by declaring Emmert's decision is political and he should die on this hill.
I replied that fall sports is more than just football so your comment about the P5(which is almost exclusively used to reference football) leaving the NCAA and becoming its own entity is shortsighted. I then cited how many schools not in the P5 still compete against and beat P5 teams in other sports as reason for P5 schools to not just leave the NCAA.

Furthermore, what Emmert said is that fall championships are called off. That doesnt mean season's cant be played still. Even furthermore, its not like he is the decision maker in this since he is just the messenger from what I can tell. He is the one that announced it because over half the schools have declared they wont participate in fall sports and more than 50% is required for championships to happen.

It appears you are totally missing the actual point and instead you are arguing a tangentially related point.

You declare 'it' to be a farce. What is 'it'?
Is covid19 'it'?
Is the mask mandates in some parts of the country 'it'?
Is Emmert's announcement 'it'?

Seriously, what is the farce? Your graph and argument about Hawaii seems forced into this conversation. What does Hawaii or their running #s have to do with conferences shutting down fall sports to the point that championships cant happen?

Like really now- 17! We all speak the same language, yet so many points people make have nothing to do with the topic or anything even mentioned up to that point in the thread. Is an MSU education really this bad?!?

What I am saying is it's relatively still much lower (case number and death number wise) than any other comparable population. Yes, they have had a spike in the past month, but still not out of control or "dire" imo, but maybe it is compared to what it was up until August 1st.
