Mark Cuban and the National Anthem

Mark Cuban said that it was his decision to no longer play the national anthem prior to the Dallas Mavericks home games at American Airlines Center. The Mavericks haven’t played the national anthem prior to home games this season, and the team doesn’t plan on playing it for the foreseeable future.

Personally, I think it should have been that way all along. It's a ballgame and I don't know why they need to bring the National Anthem into it. Do they play they National Anthem before a play or a concert?

The only reason Kaepernick was able to kneel during the NA before a ballgame was because the NA was being played in the first place. Playing the NA is a statement and kneeling during it is a counter-statement. I'm watching the ballgame for the ballgame, not for the statements or counter-statements.

He will do whatever China tells him.

One more reason to not care about the NBA....that being said, the NA is played before sporting events starting in High School...I guess that should end also....who cares about the US...it's a global world....

Thank you.....I totally agree. I have posted the same reasoning about 10 or 20 times on this board since the Colon Kaerperdick ********....why give him and other ******** a platform.
I also don't think we need to play the National Anthem before sporting event......just no need for it.

Cuban is a dick head.

My problem with Cuban isn't with the NA but I do have a problem with him and that's China. The NBA is in bed with China, oppressive regime, slave labor camps and all, and they make a bundle from it. Cuban is a billionaire ALREADY and even if he did not make another cent in his life he'd still be insanely wealthy and yet he goes along to make even more.

I get solace out of the fact that I bet someone like Cuban would like to parlay his fame and power into a Presidential run and yet knows if he tried it then the large amount of very bad stuff the CCP carries out would be hung firmly around his neck.

It's done down to the lowest levels of athletic competition and if there is no music system everyone recites the Pledge of Allegiance before the first game or match. I don't see the harm in it. I also pay 0 attention to the NBA and I won't ever again unless I get lucky enough to have a kid playing there.(Not Likely)

Correct. The relationship with China isn't for the good of basketball, it's for the good of the NBA and maybe every 20 years the Chinese might have someone good enough and big enough to actually make a roster.

It's interesting that they have done since the beginning of the season and we are just now noticing...not sure what that says about the NBA or the USA in general.

I would say this will pretty much ends Cuban's flirtation with running for office.

Yea I think it has something to do with the general apathy the average Joe has with the NBA. I quit watching about the time they started taking high schoolers with top 10 picks minus Kobe Bryant.

Cuban could self fund but when you lose touch with moderates over things like patriotism and/or gun control it becomes wasted money.

I love basketball. I could go to a shootout and watch games all day but I will not turn on the NBA. I will pay to stream small college games when I could watch NBA games that I'm paying for.

NBA just put out a statement, saying that ALL TEAMS must play the NA prior to games. No word on whether it's the USA NA, or the USA BNA.

They know they are losing their *** in TV ratings. The product still sucks so I won't watch but at least they are trying to do the right thing.

I never watch the NBA, ever. My brother is a HOF college coach and still involved as an AD. He knows lots of NBA coaches that he knew from his coaching days. He has dedicated his entire life to the sport and he's over 60 years old now.

It would be awesome to make a living working in a kid's game. I could never eat the amount of **** you had to eat to advance. Kudos to your brother.

Agreed...he paid his dues and has made a nice living out of it. He does put in the hours but he gets to hang around college sports 24/7 if he wants. Covid is killing sports for everyone...including me. I miss having box seats and hanging with the college crowd during sporting events...it kept me normal....somewhat.

Steve Kerr, LeBron James, Greg Popovich, and many others ruined the NBA for me. I've kind of been losing interest in that sport for at least the last 12 years or so. Game used to be decent to watch, but the 'all-about-me' thing has ruined it for me. It all started with 'The Decision'. Right then and there, I knew it was over for me.

I am curious as to who owns the building that the Mavs play in. If it's the City of Dallas I would think that they'd be the ones who make such decisions, not some douche nozzle that panders to the CCP. I haven't watched an NBA game since the 80's, but it's not the school I hate, it's the principle of the thing!

To me its a getaway. I do miss not being able to go or really get the full experience. Football this past season was hard not being able to go to an early game if WVU had a late kick or vice versa. Hopefully I'll get to some spring football games this year.

Choosing not play the national anthem is his choice. It’s his business. Doesn’t make it right, but it sure makes him an ***. I stopped following the nba after Jordan left. No loss for me. I hope the league folds

Its a tradition.

We arent the only country who does it.

Like they wont just move on and protest something else?

Maybe if we just take away everything, everywhere they will be happy? BTW - That is their actual go. Erase everything, because everything is racist.
