Just some fun statistical comparisons through Adrian's first nine games (didn't play against Troy). Keep in mind that Mariota played his senior year of high school football in 2010, then redshirted at Oregon in 2011 before starting his first game in 2012. Martinez, as we know, played as a junior in high school in 2016, then sat out 2017 recovering from an injury, and enrolled in January 2018 at Nebraska.

Mariota in 2012 played 13 games.
Martinez has played in 9 for Nebraska so far.

Mariota 230 of 336 for 68.5 percent.
Martinez 182 of 272 for 66.9 percent.

Mariota threw for 2,677 yards (206 ypg).
Martinez has thrown for 2,212 yards (246 ypg).

Mariota had a 32 to 6 TD to interception ratio.
Martinez has a 15 to 7 TD to interception ratio.

Mariota had a passer rating of 163.2.
Martinez has a passer rating of 148.3.

Mariota ran 106 times for 752 yards (7.1 ypc) and 5 TDs.
Martinez has run 115 times for 535 yards (4.7 ypc) and 7 TDs.

So are those numbers for Mariota's first 9 games, or his whole first season?

That’s his complete season stats, including any bowl game stats. Pretty impressive considering Martinez has only played 9 games and is a true freshman that didn’t play his senior year in football.

Nice comparison. Keep in mind Mariota was in an already established system in which his teammates knew how to run from game one

The only stat that stands out to me as significantly different is TD/Int ratio (which also impacts the qb rating). That is the difference a year in the system should make. If we get the same AMart next year, only he puts more balls in the end zone and fewer in the defense's hands, that will be amazing.

Or maybe it means that Adrian will throw 15 more touchdowns this year, and no more interceptions. I'm good with that also.

I don't know why the best HS receivers in the nation wouldn't put Nebraska at the top of their lists. A blue-chip freshman could easily start next year and put up gaudy numbers. If he can block.

This is sort of a cool video on Adrian, and some background into his relationship with Mario. Frost and Mario comparing his style to Mariota as well
