I really like him. He’s a really good offensive mind. You know Rod Smith is a guy that I kind of thought about when Illinois fired their coach. Their offense had no problems making us look bad the past few seasons.

Coach Osborne released three coaches during his tenure. One was fired after he came back from a recruiting trip to Texas and falsely claimed he had visited a bunch of schools when it turned out he hadn't. One was released due to alcohol issues. The other was released because TO found a more competent replacement. No, I will not name names.Corrigan the running backs coach may have been "encouraged" to "retire", but I don't think he was "fired". I think it was after the 1982 season. I was on campus in the late 70's and remember some players making comments about Corrigan that he was "getting old" and "not with it". I don't really remember if that meant he was having mobility problems or was getting forgetful or couldn't relate to the young players or what. When Solich took over for him I seem to recall he had some bitter words in the LJS about being put out to pasture and wanting to coach for at least one more year since he thought Rozier could win the Heisman in 1983. Led me to believe the retirement wasn't voluntarily.

if true, we should probably be looking in southern California for a guy with a lot of ties to the big high schools: St. John Bosco, Mater Dei, Corona Centennial, etc.
But yeah, going by Frost's past actions we'll get Curt Dukes or Wahoo-Neumann's QB coach that was managing a Runza this season.
My hope is that, if this is true, we go after a real OC/Play Caller/QB coach. Like Mark Helfrich or Rod Smith.
Best case scenario is they add a full time special teams coach and strong recruiter. Lubick and Frost can handle QBs. Even better scenario is Frost hands over play calling duties to Lubick but that is not going to likely happen.
What makes people think Lubick would be a good play caller?Best case scenario is they add a full time special teams coach and strong recruiter. Lubick and Frost can handle QBs. Even better scenario is Frost hands over play calling duties to Lubick but that is not going to likely happen.
Not that I have detailed knowledge of his ability but he has done the role at big schools and it feels like taking play calling away from Frost would be an immediate upgrade? What makes people think Lubick would be a good play caller?
You really arent serious are you? Look up the numbers for Lubicks last two stops prior. With a bit of research you might temper your desire for Lubick to be anywhere near quarterbacks or football in general.Best case scenario is they add a full time special teams coach and strong recruiter. I don’t think we’re ever going to find out. N way does Frost give up play calling. Not that I have detailed knowledge of his ability but he has done the role at big schools and it feels like taking play calling away from Frost would be an immediate upgrade?

in some ways, this reminds me of the Pelini years, in trying to get the head coach to give up some coaching responsibilities, so they can focus on being a better CEO and overall manager, while letting the coordinators be responsible for the the daily grind.I’m not sure Lubick has ever coached QBs, but if Frost is going to keep calling plays then maybe it would be best for him to handle QBs as well. I think he handed that from 2013-2015 at Oregon.
Wisconsin’s ST coach is also their recruiting aceBring in Bill Busch to handle special teams. The guy is as good as it gets (recruiter/coaching).
I think if we knew everything that was going on with AM we would find his dome is the problem .
I have no reason to doubt this, but why would LSU can him if this is true?Bring in Bill Busch to handle special teams. The guy is as good as it gets (recruiter/coaching).
I've understood him to be a better recruiter than coach.I have no reason to doubt this, but why would LSU can him if this is true?

If that's the case, he might want to retire from playing QB. Or be "encouraged" to retire.I think if we knew everything that was going on with AM we would find his arm / shoulder is the problem .
how dare you.. we got him for 2 more years! If that's the case, he might want to retire from playing QB. Or be "encouraged" to retire.
Seems like a good kid but if you have arm / shoulder issues for 2 straight years, maybe throwing thousands of footballs isn't the best activity to participate in.
I suspect the deal with Luke was that he's an extremely dynamic athlete that they in fact envisioned maybe wanting to get on the field early so he would be willing to play other spots....which he has when he's healthy. He didn't suit against Rutgers because of an injury. You can NOT turn down a guy with his kind of athletic ability regardless of what position he wants to play. Smothers could end up being the same kind of guy. BOTH Luke and Smothers have similar athleticism to Taylor Martinez.I think the bigger problem is our QB recruiting. Need someone that knows some people and has developed a reputation. Recruiting a QB with a busted shoulder was on Frost. But who is responsible for recruiting LM who only played 1 year of high school football as a QB? They also waited a very long time to pull the trigger on Haarberg which doesn't inspire confidence. Smothers kind of the mystery guy right now.

Ima just call him Coach Weirdo from here on out.
They would've gotten away with it had Clark only shaved his moustache off.Bob Thornton was encouraged to find other options in 85. Darlington moved from DEs to secondary at that time. The infamous jersey switch in the 84 OB was the beginning of the ends.
Every coach raves about every assistant they hire, doesn’t mean they won’t move on if the assistant doesn’t get the job done.Frost had a whole lot of praise for Mario V when he brought him to Nebraska. I think he called him the best QB coach in the nation. This is an interesting thread. I wouldn't think that Frost would make any move unless there was some mutual feeling. I checked and he started coaching in 1977 so 40 years+. Perhaps he might be willing to step down if Frost asks.
As for coaches TO canned, I thought I heard something about Gene Huey. After a few years, he landed a gig for the Colts and stayed there for close to 20 years, so it worked out for him.
He should hes a terrible leader, made of glass, and now led the charge against playing in a bowl. Hes softer than charmin and will not be a captain next year.No way he's encouraged to give it up. Only way he's not on our roster is if we go out and bring a bonafide transfer QB.

on another message board (not this site) the word was, that the 'offensive leaders' didn't want to play, and some on the defensive side called them out.. might have been some yelling and such.. this is second hand, just fyiHe led the charge? Please elaborate.

There is also some friction now between some ex-players and Coach Frost.
