I was thinking last night with all the foul problems and the lack of productivity from Hump and Gabriel at times how much would he have helped. He kept improving over his time here and was averaging 6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game with minimum foul trouble.

I do think he could've provided some needed rim protection. But that's about it. Of course, that's enough. We're soft...other than Briscoe.

Hell, if Briscoe were 6'11" we'd probably win it all.

Lee wouldn't have hurt us.

Lee isn't here.

If I had to pick a player to come back who left early I'd choose Tyler or Murray, or both. 5 guard offense - average score 176-165, just go all Loyola Maramount on people - I take our guards over Kimble and Gathers any day...

I liked Lee. But he simply wasn't getting better, AND we have guys who can do what he does and more.

In Lee's 3 seasons his per 30/min averages were:
FR: 11.3 pt, 6.9 reb, 2.3 blk
SO: 7.2 pt, 7.6 reb, 1.9 blk
JR: 8.8 pt, 8.3 reb, 2.2 blk

In Humphries 2 seasons his per 30/min averages are:
FR: 6.1 pt, 8.0 reb, 2.3 blk
SO: 10.8 pt, 11.5 reb, 2.4 blk

So Humphries is a significantly better rebounder, at least as good a shot blocker (maybe marginally better), and his scoring is as good if not better too.

Honestly, I think SKJ is a slightly more skilled version of Lee. And he can't even make it onto the court.

We wouldn't need Lee to score a lot, but he'd be surpassing Hump's productivity at this junction, that's for damn sure.

No question we'd be a much better defensive squad if we had a windex man in the paint.

Since we are talking about former Cats, can you guys imagine Cauley-Stein on this team? With his ability to run the court and protect the rim...my goodness.

OMG this again

1. He's not here, he isn't eligible to play for us, so why even discuss it? Might as well discuss a 26 year old Hakeem Olajuwon joining the team.

2. Minimal foul trouble!?? 5.6 fouls per 40 min his junior year. 5.7 his soph year. Marcus was a fouling MACHINE.

3. He got better? He really didn't. Here's his per 40 fresh/soph/junior on many stats. Points: 15.1 / 9.6 / 11.7 Blocks: 3.6 / 2.5 / 3.0 Rebs: 9.2 / 10.1 / 11 (one may argue there was incremental improvement here) FT%: 43 / 32 / 40 Turnovers: 1 / 1.7 / 1.8 . This guy would have saved the season?

Never, in my wildest dreams, would I discuss or group Hakeem Olajuwon with anyone mentioned in this thread...let alone, a 26 year-old Hakeem Olajuwon playing college basketball. That's not even remotely fair.

Yet he's equally likely to play for our team this year as is Marcus Lee!

Marcus Lee is the basketball version of Benjamin Button. His 1st year here he was more mature and aggressive than he was his 3rd year. He regressed and became weaker and softer each year he was here.

Hell, if we are going to talk about former players, why not just say if we only had Anthony Davis and Towns? Then we would be set! I really don't get the point of these threads but have at it.

Marcus Lee would not have helped us. He was a weak interior rebounder who was a half decent rim protector. Little to no offensive game other than dunks and lobs that he could not make in traffic (despite a strong showing against Michigan his Fr year). He was also abysmal at the charity stripe, on or worse than Briscoe last year.

Our front court would not change with him on the team and I doubt he would get minutes. I know it's fun to play the what-if game, but that game is more suited for Meeks on the Wall team.

Honestly, it'd be far more appropriate to imagine where this team would be had Ullis returned. Id argue we'd be undefeated now with his return. Have his heart on every play, very little turn overs, good perimeter shooter, and ran the offense like a well oiled machine. Not to mention he's the only PG at UK who Cal has trusted completely to be the coach on the floor. He would be the leader that we need Briscoe to be.

He didn't improve from his freshman year, but he did have enough physical talent to block some shots and grab some rebounds.

He definitely could help this team, at least some.

I believe how things have worked out with Hump and Wynyard the only option this year has been BAM and that is why he has to play 35minutes a game. We all thought after Hump's freshman year that he would be outstanding this year coming in for BAM. It hasn't worked out like we all thought it work out with Hump and Wynyard. Marcus Lee would be a senior and he always gave us great minutes when he came in to the games. With Bam sometimes needing a rest or even in foul trouble Marcus Lee being a Senior this year if he stayed would have been a great option and being a senior and 4 year player could have worked great for us if he would had stayed at UK. I guess we didn't believe that Hump would have a down year after some of his games last year like Texas A&M and other games down the stretch. It would have been great if Coach Cal would had tried to talk Lee into staying his senior year and another 4 year player brings great leadership to the floor.
