Counting Carr, they are bringing in 89.2 PPG in transfers alone. That blows away everyone else in the field just from stats alone.

Talent-wise, they are bringing in or back a total of 122.8 PPG. They return two double-digit scoring starters.

These guys - Carr, Allen, Disu, Mitchell, and Bishop - were the first or second best players on their respective former teams. I think that's pretty impressive.

His last year at Texas Tech, though, he similarly brought in some high-level scorers from other schools (McClung, Burton, Ntambwe, and Santos-Silva) and only McClung ended up keeping up that level of production.

My guess is Bishop, Allen, Mitchell, and Askew have a significant drop in minutes and points while Carr and Disu blend in well with Ramey and Jones.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. The SI articles didn't seem to put much weight in the Calipari stuff. I doubt Texas ever thought they had a legitimate shot at him.

It was kind of good timing to make a push for Cal, though. Coming off his worst season, our worst season, fans were tired of his stubborn ways. Texas probably figured if there was any time to get him, now was it. They certainly have the money to pay, the recruiting pool, the alumni base, etc.

IDK if it was the Texas thread.. but I do recall these rumors coming up, and I remember thinking to myself that if he left, I wouldn't be surprised. I was legit thinking there was a chance he parts ways and kind of starts fresh somewhere else.

TTU has 19 tournament appearances. Literally were in the tournament the season Tubby left. Beard followed him up by missing it. They have been in the sw 16 7 times. They are a 12 time conference Champ and 5 time conference tournament Champs. They have had Bob Knight, Pat Knight and Tubby Smith all coach there in the last 15 years. They aren't this doormat program you're envisioning.

Can you please quote evidence to support your claims?

I don’t know what evidence you want me to cite.

The 2010 ESPN / Sagarin rankins placed TT as the 89th program in history. For a P5 team that is really bad. Baylor has definitely jumped them so without Beards run there would probably only be around 9 P5 teams they actually stand out against. Without Beard they are slightly better than Auburn but haven’t made it nearly as far.

Bob Knight went there because he was old and could control the program. He wanted to leave it to his son so that’s not something I’d use to bolster their program

Pat Knight isn’t a good coach. Tubby Smith was ran out and is currently the coach at High Point. I don’t see how this bolsters your argument at all.

They’ve made some tournaments, but without Beards run it’s essentially a program with nothing to write home about. I mean Auburn has less tournament appearances but if you remove Beard had had more tournament success. The only way to currently call TT a good program, you literally have to use Beards accomplishments and you can’t because you’ve already claimed he’s trash.

Considering they have only been P5 since the mid 2000's that isn't bad at all.

Bob Knight wouldn't go to a doormat.

You might need to use Beards run to bolster you argument, fact is they had a decent program before Beard. They just didn't invest in a better coach. I never said he was trash, just not UK material. I suspect he will do fine at TX, but that type of program is his ceiling.

Yes Bob knight would go to a doormat. He was ran out of Indiana, was old, and wanted to have leverage over a program to hand it to his son. Good programs won’t offer that kind of leverage.

Now we’re down to they are a decent program. Yes with Beards accomplishments they are.

Nice talk Chronic. See ya around.

I never said any of those things. I’m disputing your flawed arguments. You named a bunch of guys who are “name coaches” to prove somehow that TTU isn’t a gutter job, but failed to mention that Beard has taken TTU deeper in the tournament than any of those guys … twice.

you can have your other argument. Not engaging in that. We’ll see how he does at Texas. I think the roster he’s put together this season is going to be pretty damn good.
Taking someone further doesn't equate to that being a gutter job previously. Lol.

Lol, if you need to tell yourself that to feel better about Beards failures, I say go for it.

I've never said they anything more. They have 9 more tournament appearances than Auburn. Literally almost double the success.

Listen weed guy with UK name from the 90’s, I knew you were trolling. But I’ll hit my knees for Beard so I trolled you too for an opportunity to talk about the guy.

Sure man, if this all means that much to you, tell yourself whatever you need to in order to rationalize it internally. 😉

So the 9-16 season isn’t a failure on Cal’s part because of his salary??? That’s basically what you’re saying about Beard.. 😂😂😂
No

That's not what I'm saying. Would you say Cal was a failure here since he lost 46 games over the past five seasons while Beard lost 50 games at TT during that same time period?
