I have always been a fan of Manchin. I know many don't care for him but I think he is an institutional guy. I believe our institutions work as long as we don't abandon them. Joe doesn't believe in the idea that a party getting a slight majority means you cram thru the extreme policies of that party. Right or left, it shouldn't work that way.
Joe does what is best for Joe. If we are lucky, what is best for Joe stays what is best for us. When he was governor he did some outlandish stuff to insure his re-election. Not shocking for a politician but don't ever get too close to a snake
I'd feel a lot safer if he switched to the Rep party. Never underestimate the devious left of Schumer.
