He will be the best player we've ever had! Dominates all the local talent and for sure should've been a MCD's AA! Can anyone give a first hand account of his abilities and how soon he'll contribute here?

He has to prove it on the court.

That being said, Coach Pitino or someone around him said he could become
his first one and done. That means dominating talent.

He's thin for a 5, but can stretch the floor being a good 3 point shooter.
Hopefully he'll play the 4, while Ray and Anas share the 5.

If he's is one and done, there will be no more detractors on Romeo signing here.
He can be one and done also.

He's also a finalists for Mr Basketball in Indiana which gets announced in May I think.


Him and Nwora I think will be first to contribute. I think Williams though will get the most PT. Wont start right away because of our depth down low, but if he does good this summer he will see the floor every game this next season. As with anyone else if they do good this summer.

I saw somewhere that Nwora and another one of our recruits will be starting summer school at Louisville and be on campus in June. Cant remember the 2nd recruit though. I assume most will do this though.

I think you can have duos of Mahmoud/Spalding at the 4/5, Williams/Mahmoud, Williams/Spalding Johnson/Spalding , Johnson/Mahmoud

With our depth. True position is less obligated because i think any of these 4-5 players at the 4/5 can play together. Spalding and Johnson being able to play 4 and 5 helps

Guard depth will be the team's main question mark if (and it's likely so) DM stays in the draft. Other than that, the Cardinals will have a national title contending team.

And depends on who we pickup at the 2G spot if Mitchell stays in the draft. Wish @KerryRhodes would remember the name ! :D

I see Sutton playing the 3 spot as he brings both outside shooting and rebounding to the position, allowing Adel to play the 2. If perry is a true PG, that could also allow Snider to play some 2. Of course King would have to step up to play ahead of Sutton. Sutton has one of those bodies like Bonzie Coleman and has a knack for being in the right position for rebounds, one thing missing from King's game right now.

Except for maybe Big Wesley Unseld. Who did have the best pro career of any Card player.

I know Cards didn't win a NCAA title with him like Griff did....but still, Wes was pretty tough dude and while a little too short to play center....his bulk more than made up for his lack of height.....and he had the greatest outlet pass off of a rebound you will ever see....past, present or future.

No one can question that Wes had the better pro career but as a Louisville Card, Griff is still the men's leader in total points. Yes, had Wes been able to play his freshman year then his numbers might be closer. Funny, if you disregard Griff's freshman numbers, their numbers (scoring average) is very close. The difference maker for me and most people is the NC. There's no wrong choice. U of L was 60-22 over Wes's career and 101-25 during Griff's. Also I think the 1980 championship put U of L on the map in college basketball.

No disrespect to Wes, who was the original round mound of rebound (not Charles Barkley). If the 3 point line existed when Griff was in college, his numbers would have been even higher. He was one of the tops in 3pt shooting in the NBA many time in his career.

Speaking of pro careers, Griff had the skills and talent to do better than he did in the pros. He didn't always put in the effort to reach his full potential. Perhaps he didn't think he needed to. But he clearly put in the effort in college with his gym rat attitude and his workouts.

Seriously his issue in the pros wasn't effort. It was the long lasting effect of having worn out knees. Probably all that jumping he did when he was young couldn't hold up to the grueling NBA schedule.

This is absolutely right.He had premature arthritis brought on by what you said,repetitive stress on those knees,much like the assembly line worker that has early onset of arthritis from over working certain parts of the body.I can tell you firsthand(about the syndrome that is).

Ellison would be up there somewhere. Started as a freshmen, won a National Championship
and was the 1st pick in the NBA draft.

Reading this thread and the debate about 2 of Louisville's greatest players has rekindled some old memories. Wes Unseld and Darrell Griffith gave us some of our best memories and some of our best moments as a basketball program.

No disrespect to Never Nervous but he benefited from having a great support cast when he was a freshman. Wagner, Billy T., Crook, McSwain, Payne, Kimbro..
