I dunno why it’s so hard to understand and why this question gets asked over and over. Dear has no chance getting reps in this offense and with the players ahead of him.

Guidry>Osiris>Williams>mixon>Thomas>Jackson>all three TEs.

Where are snaps for dear in there?

A guy with his talent will find a way on the field. Must be something else.

According to the Swede, Mullet had his favorites. It appears that favoritism no longer plays a roll. Seriously, think about it...why did JRob lose so many carries in 14?

Why did perkins get so many up the middle carries? Why did Holloway? At the time we thought it was just a case of trying to be too cute. Seems like favoritism now.

I'm going to respond to my own post here. Once upon a time 10 years ago, a young up and coming coach told our fanbase that the best players would play and that his system would adjust to the players. For a couple of years that rang true but then when his on players started rolling in, it changed to a seniority system. Some other posters have said it first, but now I have to agree, it was low risk, moderate reward mentality. Underclassmen present risk, loose cannons present risk (hence jrob). I'm starting to believe our new coach wants the best talent out there. Perhaps Dear was relying on his seniority and isnt giving the effort the younger guys are. Hill got blown up twice in pass protect. With our defense that had happened in practice. Yet he is starting. Time will tell if morehead will change stances once he gets his own guys. Tldr- when you dont have your own kids that you've learned to trust for 3 years, you base it on talent and effort alone.

I don’t know why people don’t get this either. There has been at least one Dear thread per day lately. Some folks just can’t let go of the stars in the recruiting rankings and call a bust a bust. This is no different than Damien Robinson, Marvin Byrdsong, etc.

Dear is a way out of position (by his own choice) player coming off a major knee injury who has also been alleged (not by me but by others) of having significant issues with staying in shape and general practice work ethic. That is a horrendous combination of issues with one player. Unless there is an absolutely freakish series of injuries at the WR, he is completely done playing meaningful snaps at MSU.

He’s talented, sure. But he’s basically Jrob playing WR. There are no snaps for him to be had over anyone.

He didn’t not get snaps against a team we beat by 60 due to talent. A bunch of walk ons got snaps in that game. He is still injured or he’s got a bad attitude or something.

Mullen is doing the same thing at Florida. Reading some of the Florida threads on the Florida 247 board and posters are complaining about him not playing more talented players. He’s playing less talented upper classmen like he use to do here. I never understood why a guy like Hill who was so explosive didn’t get more touches last year. It’s a breath of fresh air to have Moorhead and how he gets the ball to his explosive guys and let them make big plays.

That’s a fair point. I guess my rebuttal would be, why are we so concerned about a guy who would only get snaps in mop up duty? Just annoying to me always seeing threads about him.

If you think dear isn’t more talented than Osiris, Williams, Mixon, then I can’t help you.

Dear is either still hurt or having an issue with rehab/work ethic or all of the above.

He has good hands.
He can run.
He is a load.

So, we should line Dear up on the outside then? If you think that’s the case, it’s you who can’t be helped.

Slot receivers need to be quick, not down hill runners like dear is.

It’s mind boggling people think a 5’9 230lb dude should be taking snaps at wr.

Slot wr's need to have great hands and have a heart of a lion. Blazing speed is not a prerequisite at this level. Motion and angles are what gives the slot the advantage. He can absolutely do it....but not at 225. That is crazy to ask, which kinda speaks to his 1) physical condition/rehab 2) work ethic or both. It's not fair to speculate which, but joe can't play a 225 lb slot. Drop 15, 20 lbs and that can change and Dear can do it.

The simple explanation is that he is not physically ready. The why is the question.

Dear isn’t better than any of those guys as a WR. Dude is 5-8 215 even when in shape. That ain’t WR material at any level of football past high school. He is a running back. He was rated 4* out of high school based on how he projected as a running back. For his career, he averages 10.7 yards per catch, which is not good at all for a WR. He averages 8.4 yards per carry from the backfield, which is OUTSTANDING for a RB. Problem is, he doesn’t want to play his natural position and he apparently isn’t working hard enough at his other position either.

If he’s still having issues with rehab a solid 18 months after tearing his ACL, then that is likely indicative of lack of work ethic as well because that is an 8-9 month recovery these days. However, I don’t think that is the case. He was active in the spring and he’s dressing out, so I doubt the knee is the issue. It’s a combination of his attitude and being buried on the depth chart due to playing out of position.

How on earth do you know that all of those people are better than him? We've barely seen the new guys. I personally saw Dear with the ball in his hands at Scott field and he was electric. Better in space than any of those guys.

Being lazy and not in shape from what I've been told.
People have trouble accepting it, but it really is as simple as that. He wasn't in shape before the injury, and he hasn't rehabbed it like he should have. He never had to work a day in his life at Murrah, and that's carried over to MSU.
