Sounds like a rumor and possibly a walk on. He is a WR and a good one. Why would he play spur?

He is only a jr and he also plays DB...does not have the speed to play WR...Allears knows the coaching staff well at Hedgesville so may guess is he gets an early offer.

Runs a 4.8....40.

Think he was involved with the WV program and they said thanks but no thanks.

Too small and too slow.
Doesn't have the 40 time nor the shuffle speed.

Football IQ is sometimes more important than speed.
Shuffle speed is very important for any boundary safety or LB spot but....

Taking direct routes to the ball in college football can make up for that.
Some players see the play before its develops so those extra three steps make up for speed.

Don't know if this recruit has that ability or not.

He’s very good get him. Don’t pass up on good in state kids.

College Football at the Power Conference isn't charity....

Haven't watched video of him but he is someone the coaches at WV have seen and they did not offer him.

Even if they did an offer doesn't mean you are being actively recruited.

His 40 time is too slow to play in the slot unless he runs perfect routes.
Even then you would want that number close to 4.6 rather than 4.9 at 5'8" .
His vertical isn't off the charts so he doesn't get off the line nor does he have the jumping ability.

Plus he does not have the shuffle to play anywhere near the line on the Defensive side nor does he have the vertical.

Vertical measures explosiveness.
Shuffle measures side to side movement.

Want both at a Nickel Back position because of needing to blitz and contain the edge.

Don't know the speed and agility coaches in WV but this kid should find the best and do whatever he wants.

His HS numbers are impressive but he needs to get faster and more explosive.
He has zero offers on the table. At a 4.6 40 he could probably play CFB.
You can easily take .25 off your 40 in nine months if you work your *** off.

Maybe the recruit understands that.

He is only a Junior and you have to kinda know the history.....he has camped at WVU the last two summers and Mark Scott was at the school last week......then Brown blows up against Parkersburg South last weekend... running for over a 100 yards, had over 150 yards recieiving, and made several big plays/hits on defense....the staff thinks he can play

There are Juniors with 45 offers...
There are Sophomores with 45 offers.

Most Juniors who are late risers at least have a few offers on the table by the end of their junior year.
There are some rare occurrences but Brown has been involved in summer camps for numerous programs.

He is not under the radar he just doesn't have the numbers to be considered a P5 recruit.

I think he runs better then a 4.8

According to the numbers he ran a 4.81 40.
That is not terrible for a guy at 6'5'' because his size will allow him to get open.
A 5'8'' player at WR has to be faster.
His vertical is a 32. That is average to good. Like I said because of his size these numbers all have to be above average

Don't know him.
Hopefully he has a tremendous work ethic because I like people to win in life.
Seems like this kid wants to play CFB.
99% of players who get college scholarships work for them. A lot start the training as soon as puberty sets in.

This kid needs to get with the best speed and agility coach in WV and get stronger, faster and more explosive

He is not 5-8 and he is not playing WR for WVU(he is 5-10, 5-11). You do realize David Long is 5-11, 215 lbs.

Most on here over estimate how good these D1 players are at WVU and other power 5 schools. Half our scholarship players are not that great or not that big. This kid is big enough and athletic enough easy. He’s 5-10 legit and strong, quick, shifty. He runs well in open field too and is only a junior. This kid will play at WVU. We need to lock him down.

I see some sites have him listed at 5-10.
A lot of Linebackers are under 6-0.
What does that have to do with this recruit?

Long entered college at 218 pounds. He is now listed at 225.
Brown at the highest is listed at 185.

AllEars is the one that said Grantham would never make it to school in August so if he says WVU has interest then I take him at his word....I spoke someone that said he recently was measured at 5-10,5-11 and 192 lbs. He said Gibby will make him an outside linebacker or spur....said the 4.8 forty was a slow number for him but said the coaches have had in camp and know what he can do. Trust the coaches

How do you know he can not run a 4.6, just because he runs one bad time at an Ohio camp does not mean that is his true time?

I watched him play a few games this year. He could make an impact at Shepherd.

Like I said the kid needs to work this off season.
College scholarships are earned.

For example...
The number 1 RB next year Zach Evans has all the talent in the world. Said to be the best RB out of Texas since Adrian Peterson.
The crazy thing is this kid works like if he did not have any offers on the table.

Brown is a fringe P5 prospect as a junior. No school has showed major interest.
For him to reach that level he needs to be like I said working with the best speed and agility coach in WV.

Nate Sowers is his speed and agility coach which in part is why WVU has interest......Nate gives everyone updates on his progress.

Hopefully it works out for the kid.
Gets to stay home and play big time football.

I think truthfully these fringe recruits are better to have because they are humble.
A lot of these Top 300 recruits are manipulative or their families are.
Especially now with the current setup.
Any kid that gets RShirted his freshman year can transfer.

So I spoke with my contact at Hedgesville and Brown has visited and attended games at the following schools this fall:

Kentucky
Louisville
Cincinnati
Wake Forest
WVU(will be attending again this Friday).

That does mean any of those schools are actually actively recruiting him.

Unless a Junior is a Top 300 it is usually hands off until February
Even in February 95% of the big fish are still available so WV will be actively recruiting their top targets.

For example.
This recruit right here. Texas is not and will not ever actively recruit this player but does not mean they won't give him tickets to the games.
Good chance he is a PWO next year. Probably will have a few offers on the table but Texas doesn't want to waste a scholarship

WVU needs to do a better job recruiting the top WV kids. Period. It’s costing us games. Spring Valley has nations top offensive line. Get those big WV boys at WVU.

we need better players on defense. We are starting a safety and a walkon at linebacker

Very young and injuries decimated us. But definitely need more DB's.

SSSSHHHHH that walkon was in-state and you will trigger someone LOL

have to laugh a little when the "we have to play a safety at linebacker" card is played........................ as if Stewart hasn't proven to be a better linebacker option than ANY of our actual linebackers not named Long............ basically since Kwit.

Jovani Stewart is our 2nd best defensive player. Now, is that a compliment to him? Or a damning realization for Tony Gibson's inability to field a good defense?

Stewart is a great player just out of position....a 5-10 190 lbs linebacker is not winnable match up with a big strong oline like OSU.

and yet he'd still be a better option than any linebacker not named Long Jr., hurt or healthy
I agree.....just wish we were not in a position to play a safety at linebacker which leads me to the point being made. We needed more depth at linebacker going into the season.

But we could have all the depth on our roster healthy and happy.................. Stewart, a small safety, would STILL be a better linebacker option than anyone not named David Long.

That is the point................... it's not a depth issue. It's a talent issue.
