Wow, lots going on for Maker in that article. No more high school ball, not far enough along to reclassify, ruling out going pro overseas, possible to play 2nd semester when HS classes are taken care of. Did I leave anything out? Strange situation

Not surprising info at all. The birth certificate they have shown says he's 19, would turn 20 in November. Can go overseas for yr, Prep School and be eligible for NBA Draft, or to college. I think this is more UK vs NBA then anything. Does he go high enough to bypass or do they want to brand and send him to UK?

Both Dante and maker have classes they have to take in order to the academically eligible for college. Dante is taking those classes in summer school and it appears that he will make grades in time for a fall enrollment. I am not sure that Cal would want to take maker midstream even if the kid does qualify academically

Maker might remind some of the Diallo situation where he came in halfway but decided not to play and then almost didn't come back the next season (toyed with NBA draft). Not saying it's an exact comparison but it does come to mind for UK fans, I'm sure.

I think he’d play though cause he could practice with the team in the fall while taking the qualifying classes

He's 100% bolting for the NBA as soon as he can. Is 1 semester of him really worth it especially if Dante comes in 19?

Dante is very raw offensively..I don't think he will beat out Nick if he comes this year..

I think it's a matter of who can play defense.

Nick is pretty skilled offensively. And if he had any confidence, he'd be hard to stop.

The problem is the defensive end. He constantly gets lost or out of position. He rotates late. He zigs when he should zag. You can't be an elite shot blocker when you're not even around the ball.

It's not at all a physical thing. Nick has the size and strength to do it. Will he put it together?

Dante also has the size and strength. We've seen countless freshmen come in here and not excel right away. Nick Richards, for example.

If Richards comes in and still gets lost--Dante is going to get a chance. If both get lost, then I think there's a good chance they're relegated to bench duty and EJ starts at center with someone like Whitney/Brooks at the 4.

You may be right Dave. I always respect your opinion.

The reason I wonder if Cal WOULD take him--there was a lot of chatter about the Jarnell Stokes situation. And a lot of people seem to believe Cal wants to leave 1-2 scholarships open in case a guy does that again.

Even if the mid-season thing ISN'T an issue, one has to wonder if there's more headache to Maker than anyone at UK wants to deal with.

He could either go to Dook or to the Jailhawks and play for the Rug Doctor, you know he famous for getting on TV and whining like a punk ***** to every media outlet how its unfair, hes a great kid and speaks seven languages and should be eligible to play right away !!

I feel like cal would snap thinks up the second he is eligible if he chooses UK. I don’t think he plays any college ball in the end though.

If so, it means he's eligible for next year's draft no matter what he does for the next year. In fact, he would have been eligible for this year's draft if he could have claimed to be a HS grad.

Odds are very high that he's never going to play 1 second in college. He'll do whatever this year (find a prep school team, most likely) then be in next June's draft.

I think he faces a conundrum. If he could somehow get eligible for college, and played well, he'd be far more likely to go top 10 than of he plays at a prep school. But he's probably far more of a lock for the 1st round if he never sets foot on a college campus (see Bol Bol for the reason why).

I highly doubt he takes that gamble, if he's even in an academic situation where it would be possible.

He wasn't guessing he was sharing what he heard . Big difference . We should always encourage others to do so but since we have douches on this site who can't have nice things we run off real insiders. DK has been a good source of info since like 2000 or so on these various boards him posting again raises the level of the free board big time.

I think it's likely right in between.

If Dante comes I expect him to split time pretty evenly with Richards. 16-17mpg each with Montgomery filling in the rest at the 5.

You think they would split evenly? That would be a shock to me but then again, maybe Im expecting too much from Nick. If Dante can come in and produce on the defensive end then you may be right. I think his offensive game is going to take a bit to develop and translate to the college game. But defensively, I think he is ready to compete. If he splits time evenly with Nick, it means that Nick is not progressing into the player he are hoping for and stays on that plateau he has been on. Hopefully that's not the case. Havent seen a ton of Dante, what do you think his ceiling is for this year? I know his overall ceiling is high but what do you expect this year? Just curious

I disagree. I think he’s more likely to go top 10 if he doesn’t step foot in college. He doesn’t really have much to prove as he’s blown up the past summer and someone will take a chance on him.
