Egad friends, it is your Pugnacious Pigskin Prognosticator back with his Peerless Predictions for Week 7 of the Big Ten season! Last week I missed out on a perfect record thanks to UCLA’s amazing victory over the struggling Nittany Lions. But 6-1 is nothing to be ashamed of, and that brings my season record to 62-10. That is a sizzling 86%! <har-rumph>
So without further ado, let’s jump into this week’s picks.
Rutgers at Washington. The Sled Dogs have been having a good season, suffering only 1 loss. The Red Knights have been performing pretty much as expected. This is another case of an east coast team travelling to the west coast and it does not bode well for Rutgers. Kickoff will be 9:00 pm New Jersey time, and Rutgers may just be a little bit sleepy. <kaff-kaff>

Ohio State at Illinois. Chief Illiniwek’s tribe bounced back nicely last week, while the Buckeye Express continues to roll. Don’t expect the train to be derailed this week.

UCLA at Michigan State. The Bruins shocked the world with the monumental upset last week. This time they will be the ones traveling across 2 time zones. Sparty isn’t exactly a world beater, but they won’t need to be. The Bears will carry a hangover into East Lansing.

Indiana at Oregon. Quite possibly the game of the week. This is yet another eastern team making the trek out west. Indiana escaped with a win in Iowa City last week. Oregon’s defense is every bit as good as the Hawkeyes’. But the Duckies have something Iowa doesn’t: an offense. This will be close early, but the Ducks will pull away in the second half and fly off with the victory. <um-kumph>

Nebraska at Maryland. The Turtles are a surprising 4-1 and playing well. The Cornshuckers are also sitting at 4-1. The difference in this game will come down to quarterback play. Raiola holds the slight advantage here.

Northwestern at Penn State. The Lions have been more like ***** cats lately, having lost 2 in a row. The Wildcats have not been mild lately, sitting at a respectable 3-2. If Penn State doesn’t win this one, James Franklin might as well clean out his office.

Michigan at USC. The Wolverines travel out west to face the Trojans. On paper, this appears to be a toss-up. Just how good is each team? We’ll find out. Can Michigan break the curse of playing on the west coast? Not this week. <hep-kepf>

Purdue at Minnesota. The Boilers are taking the A train over to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. There will be no holes in the canoe this week as the Gophers come out on top.

Iowa at Wisconsin. The evenings are starting to get chilly, and the geezers at the Hoople boardinghouse will be gathered around the Stewart-Warner R-146A with steaming bowls of Ma Hoople’s ham and bean soup. The Flying Herky’s are fresh off a bye week, having extra time off to lick their wounds from the “one that got away”. Meanwhile, Bucky is on life support and view this game as perhaps their last chance at a victory this season. The old proboscis smells the whiff of an upset as Wisconsin will be fighting to salvage their season. Nonetheless, I’ll stick with the favorite here, as Drew Stevens redeems himself with a late game winning field goal. <hack-kaff>
