MAIS really should have stopped at 8 teams instead of having 12 teams per bracket.

Starkville & Centreville might be the two double digit seeds that have the best chance of upsets.

Newton & Benton had tied for the final 3A spot but Newton gets the 12-seed because they beat Benton earlier this season.

In the MAIS, chalk tends to prevail: Manchester, St. Joseph’s, Riverfield, & Heritage are all 1-seeds and I expect them all to win titles.

Riverfield has a potential rematch in the 4A finals with 2-seed Tri-County who they beat by only one point earlier this year.

Thanks for the link

You are right about 12 being too many. In the 5A bracket Park Place has already been beaten soundly by Hartfield, Lamar, Leake and Simpson. Don’t know what could have changed that gives them a chance in that bracket.

There is 6A now? Wtf. How many teams are in each class?
When I played there was a, aa, aaa div1, and aaa div2 and it was pretty good. Lots of good competition given the amount of teams in each class.

Yep. There's 6A now-- made up of the six schools with the most male students and all of the schools were scheduled to be in the 6A playoffs but Presbyterian Christian was disqualified from the playoffs. They had appealed but the ruling went against them and now the 6A bracket has five teams in it.

Edit to add: 6A is a football classification only. All other sports go up to 5A.

There are 6 football-playing schools in 6A, 17 in 5A, 15 in 4A, 17 in 3A, 16 in 2A, and 12 in 1A.

There are 2 schools in 4A that don't play football (Laurel Christian and Macon Road Baptist of Tennessee). River Oaks of Monroe, La., another 4A school is planning to apply to the LHSAA which means that will likely be 14 schools playing football in that classification next year.

1A and 2A are all 8-man teams. 3A has all the smallest 11-man schools.
