Magnay is getting this game figured out in a hurry. His game can be contagious for Taplin who played great too. Pat Birt is an enigma.

He's very special. Eventually, he's going to get open looks for our guards.

Magnay the Magnificent. Could be the biggest surprise in the AAC - a la Dak Prescott in the NFL.

His progress has been amazing. But its still early in the season, so lets see how he plays throughout the year. I think his improvement is based on his comfort level improving. Very skilled 6-10 player.

Magnay is a star in the making. His skill set at this early age is phenomenal. Great, great hands, good footwork, blocks out on rebounds, seals off on drives, runs the pick and roll well, has a great BB IQ, great timing and a great motor.

When he develops more back to the basket moves and a face up jumper, he'll be an all conference player. 7 games into his career, he is dominating portions of games.

I absolutely love this guy. And you can see he's all team. Just makes this team so much better. We're going to love watching him improve over the years.

We need to go back to that Australian academy that he was at and ask:

I would send an assistant over there for a long vacation to look at young players. The basic skills they teach the young players over there are light years ahead of us.

Yep. Magnay has actually been coached well. I'm really surprised by his offense. I thought that's where he would struggle.

Also makes me fear SMU knowing they supposedly got a kid rated higher in Australia

I watched the game again...

He did so many little things in a positive way, that I lost count.

He has the best BB IQ of anyone on the team. Soft hands. And is more athletic than I imagined.

But he's got Jankovich to screw him up.
Yeah, I haven't watched them much, but statwise Magnay has an edge so far. He's played a tad more minutes per game, but he has much better shooting percentages from in close and at the FT line (in fact Froling doesn't even get to the line often). He also averages more points and more boards with fewer turnovers. I'd say we got the steal of the Australian class.

To be fair, their transfer (Ojeleye) is VERY good statwise though, and they still have Shake.

Our first one and done, ha, ha? Our first two and done, ha? Our first three and done?

He has a great future if he keeps improving.

I don't remember any TU players leaving early and playing in the NBA.

I've watched a couple SMU games. They've got 2 Aussies, but the guard never really plays. Honestly, the big guy reminds me of David Wishon. He's really raw and looks like what I initially expected from Magnay. I think we got the best of the 3.

Didn't Dana Lewis leave after his junior season? I know he played his frosh year at ORU, then redshirted the next at Tulsa. He then played 2 more seasons at TU before he was drafted in the 1st round of the NBA draft.

You're right of course, but Korita, who is playing so much better than Birt, may
be right there....Very smart and quick thinker.....Thinks before he passes, but
does it quickly....Prob. will be the best outside shooter on the team before all is
said and done....

Magnay, on the other hand, is missed on both ends of the court when he is not
in the game......Haith said it best....."Magnay does a lot of non-statistical things
to help the team".....Gets a lot of offensive boards, and tips out a lot more....

Wow!! I'm impressed.....

Don't forget his buddy Igbanu will be with him for 4 years. (I hope) I really like him too. He only got 6 rebounds in 6 minutes of time against ILS.

Yes, he is hard to forget! He has very good offensive footwork, and is strong
as a horse.....He, like Magnay, is a hard working offensive rebounder...

He isn't quite the "space eater" that Magnay is, nor as physically intimidating
on the defensive end, and given the difference in their physical make-up,
probably won't be.....

He is a great prospect, and the probability of having them both for several
years is really exciting......He has the ability to extend his shooting out to at
least mid-range, but with Etou in the house, I doubt if we see that for a while.....

Korita needs to play more minutes than Birt. Birt is really hurting the team and needs to sit there with Edogi.

I'm not ready to say that just yet. Birt is struggling but he's still the senior leader on the team. You can't get past whatever it is without some meaningful minutes. That said, Korita was rewarded with more meaningful minutes the other day. As long as Haith continues to recognize that, letting Birt work things out is fine. If/when Birt catches fire he's can put up 30 in a hurry.

I think Birt is trying to be a little more than his realistic skill set.

Bottom line - He's a spot-up three point shooter who can get hot.

If Taplin continues to improve, and the offense starts to flow, hopefully Birt can fall back into his skill set.

To Haith's credit, he pulled Birt when he wasn't scoring.

Haith has said multiple times that everyone will get a chance at playing time and those that perform will get more time. I think the inside players have exemplified this. When the season started Edogi was starting, when he began to have problems Igbanu started, when inserted into game situations Magnay showed effort and ability so last game he got a start. Magnay responded with 10 points and 13 boards so I would be shocked if he doesn't start against OSU. Birt's having confidence issues right now so he wasn't in at crunch time Wednesday, that doesn't mean anything concerning his ability or future. I still expect him to start because he's our most experienced player and if he hits a couple early he can go off and allow us to pull away from an opponent. So far Haith has been making the right moves considering the number of new pieces he's trying to get to mesh.
