Magic number is not 2

IIRC, the committee hasn’t used “how you finish” for at least a decade. Unbalanced conference schedules make that metric fairly useless in a lot of cases. In 2013, we (Illinois) were 8-10 in the Big Ten, did not finish the season all that well and went 1-1 in the BTT, with the one win not being an overly impressive one. We got in as a 7-seed. Rutgers, at this point, still has a body of work that easily puts them in.

I said last week that RU would beat NW and then lose the remaining reg season games.

I don't see a win in this gauntlet
If I had to predict, I see us winning one more regular season game and one in the B1G tournament. The problem is 19 wins (really 18 due to Caldwell) probably isn’t enough.

This is a bad prediction. Is it possible? Sure. But any reasonable set of probabilities has us somewhere between 2 and 3 wins in the next six, meaning a prediction of 1-5 is dumb.

I will offer you a bet. If we go 3-3, you pay me $1000. If we go 1-5, I pay you $1000. Would you take this bet?

If yes, plz come gamble with me more, I like suckers.

If no, your prediction is ********.

and one in the B1G tournament

This is obviously harder to evaluate, but seems reasonable at first glance.

This is, again, wrong, but that won't stop you from saying it again and again.

I mean to be fair 19-14 is less likely to be enough than 19-13, it might not be, who knows.

Well then they're great actors. Ton of people who stress like hell about sports and never let themselves get anywhere near making up for it when good things happen. Myself included to some extent. Just sounds like a bunch of those.

The team hasn't played well since Jan. 28 vs. Purdue. That's not being a "bad fan," it's an indisputable fact. Seeing a lot of parallels to the 1998-99 team, which actually had more experience and talent than this one but folded down the stretch.

Somehow, you have managed to miss the point of your own thread.

Fun fact, on that note: that 98-99 team was 2-9 against teams good enough to make the NCAAs as at-large teams (includes teams that would've received at-large bids but got auto bids anyway). They didn't have the quality wins to weather a poor finish. Even if RU loses out - loses out! - they will finish with at least 4 such wins this year.

Anyone promoting this propaganda is doing a disservice to Rutgers basketball, plain and simple. For Rutgers to get in the NCAAs with 19 wins, that means the committee would be picking a team that went 2-6 in its last 8 games. Do you really think they'd take that kind of risk on a school that hasn't been to the tournament since 1991?

I firmly believe Rutgers needs to finish with 20 wins to have a strong case. 21 gets us in no matter what. So the magic number is 4, not 2. Hopefully RU plays great down the stretch, starting tonight, and makes all of this a moot point.

Edit: To clarify, I think Rutgers is about 75-25% to get in with 3 more wins. With 4, they're 100%. That's why it's the real magic number; it leaves nothing to chance.

Your right it's not 2 it's only one now:Hammer Nails:
