I’m praying for Mawot Mag to have a speedy recovery. Knees are tricky. You don’t want to come back too soon with a chance of reinjury then it’s a longer process. Remember Caleb also had a knee injury at the start of the season. He was out for the first 6 games.

If it is just a meniscus tear, he probably could be back for the B1G Tourney or NCAA.
If it is an ICL, ACL, or MCL - he’ll be done for the year. Surgery. Then Rehab over the spring and summer.

So is it safe to say that Mowat was NOT seen at the women’s game yesterday without a brace or limp? I would assume someone would be able to confirm that by now.
Could be wrong but maybe @hoquat63 was at the women's game and can comment? Sorry if you were not there, saw you posting on the WBB forum yesterday, seems you may have been there?

I was at the game yesterday....saw a bunch of the guys but I didn't see Mag. Granted, I was sitting under the basket so I might have missed him.

We replaced Mag with Oskar vs. MSU. When that didn't work we tried Hyatt. When that didn't work we replaced our starting power forward with 6 foot Derek Simpson and that worked best.

Freaking out is an appropriate response.

Why so extreme here? Don't you usually pull people back to the middle? Good teams and coaches find a way even through injuries. The only reason to freak out is if people think Pike and the roster is one dimensional and won't make adjustments to account for different personnel rotations.

No, jerk off
Is 66 upset? A bit thin skinned? If you don’t see the humor in your post announcing that Mag’s knee injury is a knee injury, then you can’t sit at the cool kid’s table.

PS - my post was in jest so lighten up captain obvious 😉

I announced nothing.. It wasn't my info but a quote from the site saying multiple absences and confirming a knee injury , captain clueless.

Sadly that has to be the expectation with no update yet.
That shouldn’t be the expectation at all though. Regardless of his status you wait to make any announcements so Indiana doesn’t know what they have to prepare for.

The only one who knows for sure is Hafley, and he ain't telling til after the game

I jest - Mag was the most improved and possibly MVP of the team. I have zero confidence in Dean or Palmquist to pick up the slack - I think Hyatt has to pick up the slack- and hoping Wolf hasn't hit the freshman wall yet

I was thinking Pikes has purposely given him fewer minutes lately to ensure hat didn't happen. Fingers crossed!

Don’t care about the announcement. But come on, we’re all sports fans and we all fear one of our guys getting non-contact knee injuries because we know it almost always ends with prolonged absence and ended seasons. I’m still hoping for the best and a full recovery regardless - huge loss for us. Huge. Was quietly becoming a star on offense. Closing in on a consistent double-double.

Huge loss without question. Would be the best defender on pretty much any other team (might even be the best defender on this team) and has turned into a surprisingly efficient player on the offensive end of late.

Looking at Indiana specifically, Mag was primarily guarding Race Thompson when we played them back in December. Hyatt matched up against him doesn’t really scare me much.

Heartbroken for the kid. Finally healthy for the first time in his career and balls out. Now this.

I hope to see Wolf get more time this game if Cliff gets in foul trouble. He matches up better against TJD. Problem is he fouls too much ans refs have seemed to pick up on that and have a quick whistle against him

Rutgers defeated Michigan State in the second half without Mag.They have four experienced starters plus Hyatt all capable of scoring in double digits.

We did but over a game and a few games this definitely hurts us in many areas the biggest is the press which is nowhere near as effective when Mawot is not in the game lets pray for the best!!

One of the many nice things about having a near power forward sized point guard and two big wings is the lineup flexibility Pike has.
Paul 6'7" 215, Cam 6'4" 207, Caleb 6'7" 200. They can mix and match whoever plays with those 3 and Cliff. Simpson, Hyatt or just about anyone else in the rotation.

I hope they don't recruit too many small guards and get away from this. In addition to the lineup flexibility I think that size impacts almost every aspect of the game more than most people realize.

Interesting that they got like this when all the coaching staff but Pike (who was a 6'4" guard) were 6'0" or shorter guards.

Agreed. I trust Pike and staff. They’ve had to adjust every game as it’s never consistent as who performs well. What other teams have 10 players on roster who have had at least 1 game in double digits? Depth isn’t as bad as folks make it out to be. Better to happen now where everyone has seen the floor and the staff know capabilities. Plus we are the epitome of team and everyone plays for each other. No doubt someone will step up.

I think we can make due for a bit without Mag, we will have to play above our heads which weve done in the past with guys like Paul stepping up big time. He becomes the aggressor on offense i feel good about our odds going forward until mag returns to the lineup.

I do not want to see Oskar or Miller on the court. I do believe the one game for Oskar was a fluke due to Minny playing YMCA defense.

Rotating Simpson/Hyatt/Wolf/Dean based on the gameflow will be key, very little room for error against a hot Indiana.

not optimistic.. my uneducated guess is that it will take years for him to trust that knee again and play as hard. Fingers crossed, of course. COuld it be that defender stepping on his heel kept his foot from getting better positioned under his knee before the leap?
