Based upon a recent Twitter thread that's making the rounds, Mack's Supper Club keeps coming up. I was in Starkville from 2000-2006, so i know nothing of this place. Can someone shed some light on this place? What it was? Where it was? What made it so special? Thanks

It was a small club in Crawford right off Hwy 45. The owner, Mack, would play guitar and sing WAY off color songs behind chicken wire.

It was THE place to go when all THE OTHER places shut down and you still hadn’t got your fill.

back in the day it was known as the RED FOX--then Mack Banks bought it and it became Mack's Western Club.. There was a bumper Pool table in the Bar and over the bar was a giant pair of panties that said "Where's the Beef". Mack was a Rock -a Billy singer in the 50s and is still singing at the Sparta Oprey. He sold cassette tapes-at all the truck stops. A true-Juke Joint.

One night after OV closed, a buddy of mine and me, along with the two girls that we were dating, hadn't had our fill so we headed out there to see if we could grab a case and hit back roads. Well I guess it was a slow night for them because as we pulled up two older black gentlemen greeted us to say they were closed. At that point we tried to persuade them to just sell us a case and we would be on our way. So one of them peeked over my shoulder into the backseat of the truck to get a glimpse of the two ladies we had with us, and then had a change of heart. The 6 of us ended up eating chicken wings and drinking Budweiser into the wee hours of the morning there. Good times.

Went there all the time when I was a student at State. The best part is it was open all night. Usually went there after the Starkville bars closed. Occasionally I wouldn't leave until the next morning and the sun would hit me in the face. It was so bright!

When fights between would break out, Mack would get a baseball bat and bang it on the bar, and that would stop everyone. Fights were always between frats--I don't think the locals ever fought. I played a lot of pool and got along with the locals just fine. Virgil was a huge man who wore trucker hats with funny sayings. Glenn had a leather belt with his name on the buckle. Wanda had a muffin top under her cutoff shirt and over her jeans.

My claim to fame--Mack's big stage room behind the bar was used just for storage, and my friend and I spent all night talking him into singing on stage again, and he soon cleared out the room and started playing on the stage.

Mack showed us where he recorded his songs in a trailer out back. It had egg crates lining the walls for soundproofing. "P___ licking Tommy" was a Phi Tau brother of mine.
