I'm shocked at that too. I thought for sure us and Erwin were ready for a deep playoff run. Lol. The Mac is what we thought they were the last 3 weeks, a one man league
How'd y'all do champ? I tried telling you we weren't all that. Reynolds is good, but the rest of us were....ehhh
People can say what they want, but that's pretty dang impressive. I had you guys picked to win the MAC this year much to the chagrin of my Cougar buddies. Just hope the Rockets don't get the big head and lose focus. I could honestly see you guys bringing back a ring to the mountains this year. Good luck to you guys next week.
Well I was really excited for the 2015 season in 2014. We saw how that worked out. In 2015 I'm not looking forward to 2016.

Come on now. Asheville will always be a premier program. You dominate at the youth leauge and middle school levels that talent should filter up. Programs have a talent drought sometimes just like reynolds the last few years before this. 90% of the teams in this state would love to be 9 and 3.
If it truly is an end of an era, we'll see a new face on the sidelines next year. And with it will come a spread offense which should make everyone happy. But there is one thing you can take to the bank. There isn't another coach in North Carolina who cares about his players on and off the field like Danny Wilkins does. The man has been through hell and back the past 15 years and has been the only father that many kids in our program will ever have. There will always be Asheville Cougar football, but when Wilkins hang it up we'll lose a lot of the heart and sole that made us a respected program in WNC.
Coach Wilkins is a great guy and if he does decide to hang it up this year, who could blame him?
It's been a while, if ever, mountain football just isn't much this year. I hate to say it, but as a whole, we don't really have very many good teams. We have Asheville Reynolds and lately Erwin that we feel confident can give piedmont teams games year in and year out. Occasionally Asheville will have a real elite team that is a legitimate top 10 team in NC capable of beating anybody in 3a on a given night. This year it's Reynolds elite team and they have a great tradition and reputation. Erwin is up and coming but not quite a team people from say... Burlington have heard of yet. Roberson has a good team every 5 years or so, but when you have a year like this year with the Mac winning 1 playoff game out of 5 tonight, it really reiterates the notion "mountain football sucks". The Mac is easily the best conference the mountains have to offer and look what we have this year, Asheville loses first round which has happened like 2 times in 15 years, Erwin loses at home, Roberson loses at home, McDowell gets annihilated. That's pretty embarrassing stuff right there.
