MA JV finish 8-0 only lost one game past 3 years. Elkin and Alleghany JV have folded so JV season is over.

I think the lack of a middle school program over the last few years is starting to catch up to them. I was told the 7th 8th grade level has been up and down almost year to year wondering if they will or will not have a team. It is tough on a school that small.
MA JV continues to build strong! Hats off to Coach J.K. and staff he is a great one!
What's going on with Alleghany ? JVs folded up shop early in spring season....no jv last year...now folding up shop early again.
Numbers. Small schools just can't get enough players to come out. Maybe the state should consider the Jr high system again just for the 1a schools
This got me to. I was under the impression that Alleghany numbers were up this year from where they had been
They were up...but I think with injuries we had to pull too many up I guess. We had 2 freshman rotating series at middle linebacker vs Elkin this past week.
Yeah that is tough. Small schools get hit with those heavy waves of low numbers Elkin, Alleghany, South Davidson are all schools that come to my mind that have had these problems in the past. Over here in East TN ive seen it to small schools like Cloudland, Unaka, Jellico all are almost week to week on JV or no JV
Schools can still play junior high football if they choose. That's what the SMC schools do.
The problem is it would require more than just Elkin and Alleghany to do it in the area. Other area schools aren't hurting for numbers it seems other than probably the 2 1A Stokes schools I assume.
I think there is more and has been more going on at Elkin than has been let out. At least 2 years without the 7th and 8th grade team which those kids should be varsity now I would think. They've field middle school since the school system took over I believe. Not sure how their numbers have been at middle school.

They are probably going to need the numbers in jv kids knowing what's coming from Mayberry
