Makes sense. Seems like weird timing since they had their best season in awhile thoughAs far as I know, St Pats has a new president Dan Santucci and he wanted to go in a different direction for the head football coach.
Galante is back. Coached freshman last yearGreat hire. They should also bring back Galante as well.
Probably only till the end of the school yearThe link is to the announcement, Guerra is staying as Dean of Students.
Or till he finds another job/school to coach atProbably only till the end of the school year
Great take.I get the thinking behind Santucci bringing in Mertens.
Guerra had no real ties to St.Patrick being from California.
Mertens being an alum, with a proven track record is huge!
Your hope is that they build upon that playoff run and continue to impress and draw better players from the neighborhood.
Fenwick winning state may steal a few kids that ultimately could've been Shamrocks.
Just my opinion...
Good night to be a Shamrock!I will not be going to Coach’s tonight. Vile weed them Shamrocks!!
I came to ND with the bricks. (Peach baskets for hoops and leather helmets) I want to say the rivalry really started to take root in the 90’s . It’s really not been much of a rivalry in football. We haven’t played each other in football in a couple years now. The years prior to not playing ND seems to have had the advantage. It seems to me the rivalry is really a basketball rivalry anymore. It’s always a blast to see the two stud sections get after it, and the teams have been elite levels recently. I’m looking forward to the football rivalry coming back again. The hire of Luke Mertens assures that the football team will build on this year’s momentum. With the CCL/ESCC schedule set for this year still (I think) I don’t see us playing again this year , but who knows maybe the non conference schedule will allow the teams to play.Good night to be a Shamrock!
Honest question- was this a big rivalry when you were at ND? 84 Pats grad - big games were St Joes (in basketball for first place, in football for last) and Holy Cross (Battle of Belmont). ND and Marist were next tier. Now it is all ND.
FYI to others: Pats > ND in b-ball tonight at ND.
The schedule for next year is the same as this year so hopefully the following year this football rivalry can get sparked back up.I came to ND with the bricks. Sounds like an axis of evilFrom what I remember, at least from the Holy Cross perspective from 2001-2004, was that Pats-Cross hated each other, but had no issues coming together to hate Notre Dame as one giant mob of high school testosterone. If it meant teaming up to participate in off the field extra curricular activities then Crusaders and Shamrocks could be allies if it meant taking down a Don.
I remember going to a Pat's ND basketball game way back when and the St. Pat's student section was filled with green and red and they were chanting "SP HC!"From what I remember, at least from the Holy Cross perspective from 2001-2004, was that Pats-Cross hated each other, but had no issues coming together to hate Notre Dame as one giant mob of high school testosterone.
