Luke McCaffrey beat his brother Christian's 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine. According to the article linked below, Luke is projected to be a Day 3 draft pick.

Agreed but I thought Luke could be a very good receiver for us.
Turns out that EVERYTHING a lot of us said on here years ago has proven true.

1. He's better as a WR or RB.
2. If he doesn't move from QB in college, he'll do so in order to try to make the NFL.
3. If he wasn't a soft, spoiled baby of the family, he would never have insisted on playing QB for so long.

There wasn’t a single Neb player felt to possess the measurables or it factor to garner an combine invite

It shows how little Matt Rhule is thought of in NFL circles that despite his heavy lobbying he was unable to secure even a mercy invite for one of his players

Matt Rhule is a pariah among NFL teams. Kids with NFL aspirations really need to be careful because there is a huge stench that is going to be attached to them as they enter the NFL draft or as a unsigned free agent coming from a Matt Rhule coached program

I said that after the 1st time seeing him start at QB. We need to move him to slot WR right now. But sadly he was enamored with playing QB. Such a strange situation…

Frosts poor decision to cater to that situation

Having more and better depth in our QB room would’ve helped LM make the right decision. Probably would’ve transferred or switched to WR after his 1st season if we had real QB room. But Frost fvcked that up too. Put all his eggs in the T-Mart basket and had absolutely nobody of substance behind him. Making the rest of our scrub QBs one snap away from starting.

I wish him well. There are a lot of NFL receivers not as fast as him.

Probably but Frosts poor decision was to believe Mario V was a FBS QB coach and also not managing the depth issue at QB. Frost hadn’t coached a NU game by the time Luke committed. He had 6 months to recruit a QB.

Keep in mind Luke doesn’t come to Nebraska if he isn’t recruited to be a QB. Kid could have gone almost anywhere as a WR recruit. He had offers from tOSU, Michigan, and ton more school.

The gamble to offer him @ QB made sense at the time of the offer & conmit. We had 2 highly rated young QBs in Gebbia & AM. We also had Vedral who came with frost from UFC. So looking at really having a chance to develop Luke @ QB and if it doesn’t work, you ease him on the field elsewhere.

Well that was the plan and that young “depth” depleted quickly. TG transfers out. AM becomes MR Glass. Noah wasn’t very good and Mario couldnt develop. So we threw Luke to the wolves too early and our fishbowl quickly noticed he wasn’t a QB.

In an alt-universe, maybe TG stays and provides depth for AM. Maybe AM doesn’t break every other game and maybe Luke gets a few years under his belt vs basically starting game 3 of his RS Freshman year against Penn State and does well for NU. Who knows.

But this amplifies the issue with Frost. He didn’t know how to manage personalities and you have to as HC.

Time will tell if he is an effective coach based upon wins. This past year he had very few seniors talented enough to make it into the NFL. That is not his fault. Some will go undrafted and perhaps get signed by an NFL team.

I remember listening to Tyler Polumbus, former Bronco who hosted a Denver radio show and also helped coach Luke at Valor Christian, talk about him on his radio show when he was still a QB for NU. Someone asked how good a college player he though Luke would be. He never said he'd be a great QB, but simply said the cream rises to the top. Turned out to be true - as a receiver. His choice of words was probably telling.

Except against the Chiefs defense in the biggest game of the year.
Other than Trent Williams (who had two or three penalties) in the SB, the 49'er o-line is not that good. Chris Jones and the Chiefs D would outplay the SF o-line on most days. There is some fairly good o-line talent where SF will be picking. Maybe Barton from Duke or Guyton from Oklahoma.

Chiefs were down at least 1 d-line starter and Romo kept saying how much the 49ers were owning the LOS... 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good enough to almost win the SB, though.
