Hancock is probably the most statistically underperforming (in a good way) player in the SEC. His numbers do not look as good as they should, and he is about to get hot, IMO.

Hancock consistently has great ABs. He averages about 3.6 free bases (walks or HBPs) per strikeout, which is phenomenal. The next closest SEC player with over 50 ABs averages 2.5 free bases per strikeout. Only four players total in the league average over 2 free bases per K, just to show how impressive that 3.6 is.

He also has the lowest BABIP in the SEC among guys with over 100 ABs (.212). Interestingly, Josh Hatcher is the second lowest among qualifying hitters at .222. As a team, we are actually 13th in the SEC.

Combine a ridiculously good eye at the plate with a ridiculously low BABIP, and Hancock should have a great second half of SEC play.

Good stuff. But, some of that could be quality of contact related. Speaking of, I wish MSU would release more of the batted ball data. It would be cool to see where our guys rank in barrels (or something equivalent).

Of course, the quality of contact plays a big part in it. Unfortunately that data is not available.

But generally speaking when you consistently take balls and swing at strikes, which Hancock does better than anyone in the SEC, good things happen.

He's 9 for 48 in the SEC with 8 walks I think and only 2 extra base hits.

Teams are finding out throw him strikes and attack him. Scouting reports get out. He's not a 4 hole hitter in the SEC. Better suited down in the order, unfortunately for us, we simply don't have enough quality hitters to move him down.

Hope has a better second half, but I think this is more or less his ceiling for us this year. Think others need to step up.
