A late addition to the attendees: Three-star quarterback Luke McCaffrey.

The youngest son of Ed and Lisa McCaffrey split time at starting at quarterback for Valor Christian High in Colorado and is in line to be the full-time starter as a senior. Ed, the former standout NFL receiver, is the new head coach at Valor Christian. McCaffrey made his scholarship offer from Mario Verduzco and the Huskers public late last month. He also has offers from Michigan -- older brother Dylan is a freshman signal-caller in Ann Arbor -- Colorado, Colorado State, Duke and several others.

Weird. No mention of his brother Christian who was a decent football player. ;) That would be a great family to have in the program.

Not an Iowa fan but they have kicked our arse lately so we don’t have much to laugh about.

Oh the hell we don’t. They beat Mike Riley’s teams and just because they catch us with a hurt Tommy Armstrong the one year and no back QBs to give us a chance and so on...doesn’t mean I/we can’t poke fun at there crap team when they get beat down. They don’t pull no punches on us when we get beat. Now if you said “ Hey we shouldn’t be claiming to have the better team then Iowa because we lost to them lately” then I’d agree. But dogging them for getting blow out, on a big stage with one of there best teams in years, that’s fair game. That’s not us saying, are Huskers are better then your Suckeyes. That’s just us saying way to go, nice way to wet the bed. Sorry, I disagree with you. And he’ll yes we can make fun of them anyday and all day when they wet the bed with there “so called legit top 10 team”. They’d more then gladly do it to us, regardless if we beat them earlier in that season.

One of the best teams Iowa has ever fielded blown out on a major bowl game.
That wasn’t even close to one of Iowa’s best teams ever.

The biggest mistake of the Rose Bowl was not taking a second pit of cleats. Looked like the Hawks were on ice skates. Not that it helped the other bowl game blow outs this decade, but it was a factor in a lot of fans opinions.

Wait... undefeated regular season, 1 minute away from playing in the playoffs, and that team wasn’t even close to being iowa’s best team?

That’s some high quality hyperbole right there...

It certainly helped. You could watch the game and see it for yourself. Heck, that video shows plenty. A defensive starter I know on that team has stated as much.

That’s correct. 2009, 2002, and 1985 were better for sure. Some of the older guys can probably name a couple other teams that went to the Rose Bowl. Don’t forget how much flack Iowa took for an “easy” schedule that year.

I should also state that I don’t believe Iowa would have won. Kirk was in the middle of a stretch of getting embarrassed at bowl games. But Iowa’s cleats were an issue in atleast keeping it close.
