Its not about grades. This rocket scientist took the wrong course during the summer and it doesn't count toward his degree, so he hasn't satisfied the NCAA's progress toward degree requirement.

That's the angle they are going for. But apparently he was told he registered for the wrong class with enough time to switch and just didn't do it.

Attorney Don Jackson said Emery was an honor student during last semester and fell a few credit hours short due to complications with his grandmother. Attorney is requesting reconsideration and trying to get him eligible by MS ST game. Says LSU did everything right and the NCAA needs to reconsider.
