LSU Game - A couple of things...

There are a bunch of people who seem to simultaneously think that we are both a bad football team and a team who will beat an LSU team with more talent at nearly every position. And they'e going to be really mad online when we don't.

I don't have high hopes for this one, but I wouldn't be shocked if we pulled it out. Hopefully Marks will be back at full speed. His absence last week was a killer. There is a significant drop off when the other two are in.

On a side note, everyone old enough remembers the '99 LSU game where Rod Gibson definitely scored and we won. Do y'all remember when the guy was beaten over the head with a metal pipe on the path between University Commons (now Campus Trail) and campus the day of that game? I honestly don't remember if the guy made it. I know he was in ICU for several weeks, and they left the pool of blood on the concrete pathway for students to walk around for weeks after it happened.

Yeah, I probably could have given a better heads up there. I saw a clip of the '99 game earlier and was thinking about what a big day that was on campus. We were 6-0 and knew if Jackie didn't beat LSU with that team that it would likely never happen again.

There was so much excitement, and then that happened. Can't remember if we found out about what happened on the trail before or after the game, but it was big news. No idea if they caught whoever did it either.

With the advent of phones we are seeing more and more video of these street-fights that were just urban legend 20 years ago. Remember that video of the Cotton District fight a few years ago? Brutal. But damn, beaten with a pipe? I don't remember that one.

Best advice I can give anybody....stay out of streetfights, to the extent practical. Even the biggest guy can get sideswiped when all is fair game. Was this even a fight, or a robbery or something?

Damn I lived there 3 years after that. I'd have been more careful on that trail

if I had known. I had no clue.

Agree completely. But if I remember correctly, this was more of a robbery situation than just a fight.

I lived there in '99. Remember this vividly. My roommates and I never used that trail at night again. Do not know if that guy made it or not.

ETA: I'm biased because I was there, but I still think '99 holds up as one of the best times ever to be a State fan. People will say we were closer in 2014 and I get that, but I honestly think 1999 was the closest we'll ever come to actually winning it all in football. That defense was unbelievable and I think we would've played that FSU team with Weinke and Warrick a lot closer than Vick's Tech team did.

I remember that incident like it was yesterday. My girfriend and I were tailgating at the game and left after halftime to walk back to my apartment at the Commons. We were a little tipsy and her feet were hurting so i gave her a piggy back ride the rest of the way once we got to the path. We were joking, playing around and i noticed a dark liquid on the left side of the path right where the path gets really dark right before you get to the Commons parking lot. I stopped and leaned over to look at it (with her still on my back) and said "holy **** I think that's blood". She freaked out and we hauled *** up the rest of the path and went to the lady's apartment who managed the apartments that lived on the first floor and informed her and we went straight to my apartment and locked the door and watched the rest of the game. A little bit later the cops show up and we find out the next day what happened. Although I didn't hear anything the guy that had gotten beaten had to be off if the trees somewhere becuase I think we came through right after it happened. Your right that blood was there for weeks.

agreed. 2014 was fun as a fan, but man 1999 was an awesome time. and we were really good
