Kyle is awesome but we were very lucky to get him. Very lucky his high school coach asked Schiano to give him a long look. In this new NIL era we will lose more than win in the recruiting battle. I’m sure coach would have loved to get himself a Defensive End to consistently pressure quarterbacks. He simply could not get one with our financial resources. Unfortunately it matters a lot whether the fanboys want to admit or discuss it.

It's a team game and philosophies differ. Shelby wouldn't trade Monangai for Berger but they don't play in a vacuum. It's not certain Berger wouldn't have been even better here.

Tom Savage (football, not basketball)

Turns out we did.

The other thing to consider. Berger started at UCLA last weekend. How many HSs have 2 backs like that in the same class?
Not sure, but that's impressive. Not the same thing at all, but remember when Barry Sanders was behind Thurman Thomas at Oklahoma State? That was a decent backfield.

Glad he did. But I do remember some posters at the time saying we got the better back in Jersey between Kyle and Berger.
i saw Bosco play a number of times with both rbs. Berger reminded me of Savon Huggins. Kyle was so much more dynamic and explosive. I think his size was the problem. And I didn't understand why that was so.

But were they in the same class at the same HS?

Didn't the Miami Hurricanes a while back at the same time have Frank Gore and two other elite rbs whose names escape me right now ?
edit....Clinton Portis was one of them I think.

Definitely a class apart and don't know where they went to HS. I was just impressed that Barry Sanders had to defer to another RB at any point.

Will Berger be the first player to play against us that was on 3 different B1G teams? Crazy stat.

DE was never a priority, interior was and RT. Our ends have underperformed but did much better in the 2nd half of the last game. He was never looking to replace Bailey, Lewis or Toure our OLB would have been a pass rusher as well. So I have no idea what makes you think that.

NJ Coaches tell Rutgers all the time about players they feel are underrated. Fiore at Montclair told Flood about Josh Allen(pro bowl) practically begged him and he couldn’t get the time of day from him. The Ocean coach told Ash about Kenny Pickett but we got another QB. It all comes down to the coach and if he can properly evaluate undervalued talent. Schiano’s one of the best in the business at it.

D-bag never misses a chance to bring a feel good post down to get on his soapbox.

I’m not sure the DEs are underperforming, I think they are solid, but not difference makers at the B1G level. As for KM, Schiano has said in an interview, that he was not sold on KM out of HS. He listened to his HS coach and offered him. GS is very lucky he did. This is a different team without him. He needs to stay healthy. I always get nervous on some of his very hard cuts downfield, I want his knees to hold up, he puts a lot of stress on them.

Willis McGahee and Clinton Portis along with Gore beat Schiano in his 2nd Rutgers game 61-0.
And Najeh Davenport. If they ever wanted to throw Andre Johnson and Shockey were pretty good options too...

Is there anything else for you? Ten threads a day on average and then commenting on all the other ones. You’re so important and special here as useless as a weather thread instead of getting it from a real source. As for me life is too short. 0600 I ran my last long run before this year’s NYC Marathon. 20 miles and my wife joined me for the last 6. It was tough keeping up with that woman. How are those Hike’s going ?
