That may not be good news for Rogers chances of starting next year if he's bringing in this many new QBs. It will be very interesting to see what the QB depth chart looks like next fall.

Agree. But it also may make him step up. Leach loves that competition, he's done this everywhere.

Seems like Sawyer Robertson is content to come in and be the long term guy. With no spring I can't see him taking the job immediately in the fall.

Wasn't sure if that was Leach's M.O. or not. But I think you're right, there's going to be a lot of competition for the job next fall. Rogers may win it, but he'll have to earn it.

Lovertich grew up a State fan and I think it is more his dream to wear the Uniform and be a part of the team. At the same time, he is coming in with intent to fight for the starting job. Big numbers in Juco at NC Gulf Coast, but probably more like Dylan Favre, a system QB, so I am sure that is why Leach told him to “come on down”.

Lovertich is transferring from South Al. I went to a couple of games & watched most of their other games. He might do well in Leach's system, but I wasn't impressed with his play at USA. Granted he was playing behind an awful O-line. I stood beside him a couple of times. He's listed at 5'10" & that very generous. I'm pretty sure, he's walking on at MSU. South AL has a 6th year senior QB transferring from Utah, that was a 4* out of high school that originally signed with South Carolina.

Don't forget the QB transfer from Sam Houston. He still coming?

Leach's way is just so foreign to us as MSU fans, me included. I have followed him for years, read his book years ago, listened to his radio show, etc. I've always liked him but really didn't want him as MSU's coach, due to the fit. I still think it's high risk, high reward, but if this thing works out, it'll certainly change my mind about what can and can't be done at certain programs. The thing that gives me hope it that we haven't really every established any identity at MSU over the years except playing tough, particularly on defense, so no REAL reason it can't work here as long as Leach keeps that aspect.

Yeah, Jake Bentley. Not exactly a normal transfer. That guy will start.

No. Only Rogers and the two freshman are scholarship qb's.

So, surely there's some sort of agreement that if you get the starter/2nd string, you get a scholarship, right? Just odd 2 guys would walk away from a scholarship

A lot of QBs PWOs are there more for the coaching progression than actual playing time. Most WO QBs go on to be GAs after they graduate.

And it's not a bad idea to give it one more big chance, if they hope to possibly do anything at the next level. That's why I respect K.J. Costello, even though it didn't work out. I like guys who take chances, you learn a lot about yourself no matter how it turns out. Rarely is the comfortable position the best one.

I think we've become accustomed to having one leading candidate in a position group (QB in this case) that we do not know what to think when we have guys battling it out. We know what Rogers is capable of. If there are guys that can challenge him and potentially beat him out, by all means let's do it. It's not like these guys are costing us scholarships, they're freebies.

If someone wants to learn a new system and how to teach/coach football, there is no better place to do it than Mississippi State.

Plus, Gardner Minshew has proven a one and done guy can make it to the NFL with Leach. If one is setup to do not be on scholarship for a year, it's a good idea to come to Starkville to give it a shot.

Don’t we still have the QB from Vandy that is having to sit out? Seems we have QBs coming out of our ears

Not impressed. We've had this many QB's on the roster numerous times....most of them weren't very good but we've had plenty of "QB's". Give me an experienced Rogers and a couple of good backups and I'm good to go.

The kid has a strong MSU pedigree. He is the grandson of Doug Hutton. All-American basketball player on our early 60's teams.

No, Abraham and this guy are PWOs

First I've seen of this. Why would Abraham leave a starting position at USM to become a PWO at MSU unless his family is just rich? I know some USM fans that were not happy he left.

Excuse me? Did you say Jake Bentley is still playing college football????
Didn’t he replace Connor Shaw 10 years ago after he took over in 1994?

Crazy that Bentley played against us a true freshman in 2016 and will still be playing college football in 2021. He took his redshirt in his last year at SC after an injury, then transferred to Utah, and now is using the extra year that the NCAA gave everybody to play at South Al.

Is he 5’10” or 5’9”? Sub 4.4?

He's 5'10".

Don't know his 40 time, but he's not going to run away from LBs or DBs.

I will say this though: he's a great leader and a great teammate . . . such a positive and encouraging person.

Our football team will get better with Chance Lovertich on the team, regardless of whether he's the starter or not. He's the kind of guy you want at practices, in the locker room and on the sidelines. His teammates will love him and look up to him.

As others have said, he and his entire family have been hardcore Mississippi State fans their entire lives. Many of them graduated from Mississippi State.

I wish him nothing but the best, and I hope he'll get some playing time this coming fall.

I think most USM fans and players were glad to see him go after he quit on them 2 days before a game after taking 1st team snaps in practice all week. I don't know what all went down, but I don't think him staying at USM was going to be good for either side.
