Wheeler is what he is at this point in his career.

What we have seen, is what we will get this season.

If you are good with his performance in his first three seasons, then you should be happy this season.

If you are expecting him to be better, I don’t see it happening.

Hopefully what he is will be enough.
He is

How’s he do against North Carolina? Kansas? Were they overmatched teams? Sure he had bad games as well. So do great players. He turned it over too many times against St. Peter’s. He did match those turnovers with the same amount of assists however. And he was our only guard to score in double figures in that game. In fact he was actually our best guard in that game. Tyty and Grady were horrible. And Mintz wasn’t great either. He also missed key ft’s. And his defense was atrocious.

wheeler btw, isn’t a bad shooter. His 2 pt fg % is actually in line with some of Cal’s best pg’s. Look it up. His 3 point % isn’t great. We’ve had worse 3 point Shooter’s (Hagans, Briscoe), but Wheelers 3 point shot has improved over the last couple years. Here’s the thing, he only shot 1.7 3’s a game last year. If he shoots no more than 2 a game, I’m completely fine with that. Because his strengths outweigh his weaknesses. The things he does well, is as good as any pg in the country. But you won’t admit that. And overall his turnovers aren’t an issue. 7 assists to 3 turnovers is really good. He can average 3 turnovers all day if he’s getting 7 assists. In fact Ulis is the only pg in the Cal era to have more over 4 more assists than turnovers.
That’s what I’m saying! 2 misses a game won’t kill you, but he has to try and improve(which he has), and he has to shoot when open. If he starts hitting then at a decent clip even around 32-33% it will open the floor up for him.

I personally think the ship has sailed on this. How often does a poor shooter (3 seasons worth of poor shooting, which is plenty of anecdotal evidence) improve in his Senior year, even marginally? I’m sure you could dig around and find one or two guys or maybe more, but for every guy you find there are probably 10 more that didn’t.

Wheeler is not a good shooter. He is not an average shooter. He is a poor shooter.

He is what he is. If that’s good enough to win a title, then great.

But let’s be real, he has two major flaws that will limit his ability to lead us to the promised land: his size and his shooting.

Being super quick and a good playmaker would easily cover up one of those flaws, but I am not so sure it can make up for both.

But I am trying to be optimistic, so I am going to hope that being surrounded by a crazy amount of talent, guys who can make shots and score in a variety of ways, will be enough.

He improved his 3 point shooting a lot from his sophomore to junior year. And you want a guy who greatly improved his 3 point shot his senior year? Kellan Grady

I’m not saying he will become Steph Curry but he can get more consistent.

Did you forget the two NCAA finalists and how he played against UNC and Kansas. I know. It doesn't fit your agenda.
Kansas game. Wheeler was 7 pts, 8 ***, 30 TOs, 3 rebounds on 3-7 FG. He was solid but what is so amazing? And I don't expect him to blow the game open with points galore as he's a pure role player. BUt you act like he was unreal in a game UK played amazing...but he was hardly a force was he not?

UNC game...was maybe his best game in college. 26pts, 8 *** vs. 2 TO, 4 steals..12-15 FG. Sure...he was amazing that game and best player on the floor for either squad.

However, as the season as a whole....he's shown to be a very poor shooter. As the end of season becomes more scouting report is more how teams will play you...he's a half court liability over 30+ mpg. Wheeler will have good games again this year but as the year roles on and games become more crucial...solid teams will do what they always do...sag off him, go under every ball screen, double off him...then on other end...spread our man to man D out...isolate him and guards shoot over him. And games get more halfcourt, more empty possessions, etc..

LOL, are you just guessing at this, or did you actually look up his stats? I think you are throwing **** against the wall and are hoping it's correct. It’s not.
You should know. That is what you have been doing ever since you have been on this board.
