As I was leaving the stadium Saturday night, somehow I picked up someone else's cowbell by mistake and left my wife's cowbell underneath my seat. She's had this cowbell for almost 40 years and is pretty upset with me. I was sitting in Sec. 6, Row 13, Seat 16. Her cowbell has a Bully Bell sticker on one side. The one that I picked up by mistake has a clear "M State" sticker on one side and a white "Hail State #1" sticker on the other. If anyone knows of a friend or family member who found this cowbell, please ask them to call 662-299-5894. We went back to the stadium at 9:30 Sunday morning, but that section had already been cleaned. We've called the athletic dept. and campus police but both were dead ends.

Tough break. Hope you find it. My brother has one about that age that was made and sold on campus in the early 70s. He stopped taking it to games for the very reason he did not want to risk losing it. This is not going to help you now but your plight sparks a thought that might be good advice for other fans. Put contact information somewhere on/in your bell, especially heirloom bells like this. Perhaps on a piece of tape inside where the clanger doesn't hit?

Do you know who the one you mistakenly picked up belongs to? Chances are they have your wife's bell. Maybe you can trade them at the next game.
I would contact the ticket office and ask them to contact the people who have season tickets around you. they might do it.
Thanks! My wife did call the ticket office & they didn't offer to contact season ticket holders so if anyone has an inside connection that would be great. We had our last name written with a black sharpie marker on the inside of the bell.
Not to hijack the thread, but I had my bell returned to me last year.. It was taken during the 1993 Egg Bowl by the cops. Some guy in Jackson found it by a dumpster,and mailed it to me.I happened to scratch my name and number on it..20 + yrs not telling where all it traveled!

I graduated high school in 1993, so it was my parents phone number... Luckily my mom still has the number. Mom was like some man is trying to get in touch with you about a bell... I was like what?? So i called him back and he was a super nice guy and State fan. Gary Simons in Brandon I believe. He boxed it up and sent it, would not even let me pay for shipping.
Mr. Simons is a HUGE State fan and is a very nice guy. Owns Gary's Carpet in Brandon if you ever need anything. I bet that made his day as much as it made yours!
Thanks for everyone sharing !! A couple turned my wife's cowbell into the Event Staff after the game. The Campus Police has helped us this morning to locate the worker who has the bell. It should be returned to us by Thursday. We also found the owner of the bell that I picked up by mistake. Hail State !! and Go Dawgs !!
This thread is why the football program uses the "at State we're family" thing. Can you imagine an Auburn/UGA/UM fan looking for their lost "shaker?" They call them that bc they think it sounds better than pom-pom.
Hard to imagine, but the get new shakers/pom-poms for each game I suppose ... no historical or emotional significance. Always thought they had the same sound as "thunder thighs" (pantyhose on a "hefty" woman rubbing together).
I have my cowbell from my freshman year in 1965 on a shelf in my home office. It does not get taken to games at all for fear of losing it. Hard to believe it's 50 years old! Even harder to believe that I was a freshman 50 years ago. Geez ....

I have a bell that is someone else's as well...Here's the story...In 1998 in Oxford as I was walking into the Egg Bowl, the security guards stopped my wife who was behind me. The Ole Miss band was lined up to come in, so they stopped entry for a few minutes. While I waited on the band to go through so my wife could enter, 3 security personnel walked up beside me with a handful of bells each. After talking about what to do with all of the confiscated bells, they decided to just dump them in the garbage can beside me. Then they walked away. So I reached in and grabbed one and took it to my seat. I have taken it to a lot of games...it was the first bell I ever owned. I would gladly get it to the original owner if I knew how. Haha. I was 14 at the time. Pretty sure that's mine. I replaced it with the exact same bell, white handle, bully bell sticker and all. Keep it. No emotional significance as I didn't have it for long. The one I have now went to college with me and has seen much more. And it has a deeper tone. No idea why
I held 3 different cowbells that game. Our crew continued to pull them out of garbage cans after being taken from us. We worked that security guard to death. We were in the endzone.
Same security guard took my 3rd and last bell after the game was over. He got an earful then we laughed at him. Lots of whiskey that night.

Was at that 98 Egg Bowl in Oxford. My cousin talked me into it, and it still stands as my only trip to Oxford. We were in those end zone bleachers, and the cops were obsessed with harassing anyone they even thought had a bell that night. If you didn't give them a bell, they kicked you out. Meanwhile, empty liquor bottles were flying all over the student section.
cool deal...just so you'll know, it has been to a lot of sporting events, including Omaha (outside stadium).
Maybe it was because I had already lost my own bell, but it was an absolute joy to harass the security guys in Tuscaloosa during the '97 game by passing bells up and down the rows to keep them from being taken. I have to imagine it felt like a losing game of whack-a-mole to them, only with irritating ringing added in, plus a butt-whoopin' of their team to boot.

That looks like the one I got taken up at the 1998 UM game.... I bought mine at the Lodge in 1991 when I was a student. Don't know if that's mine or not.
I think we all had a bell that looked like that back then. I have dead soldiers that I have shaken the clanger out and half of them have that bully bell sticker. After that we started customizing a little more. Dad made our group maroon bells with Go To Hell Ole Miss stencilled on them. That's the one of the bells I had taken in Oxford in 98.
Now I don't take the special bells anywhere. All in a trophy case with signed balls, helmets etc....

I went and bought another just like it after that game. Still have it along with a few more that are on the office shelf. The one I use now, is just a generic in case it gets lost of confiscated. I tend to over imbibe and lose my belongs at certain games. Bells, hats, visors, underwear....its all fair game.
