He sure as **** would‘t be saying a-hole comments about how our players suck. Or how a player is on the spectrum. He’d say we didn’t play well or our energy was low.

And nobody cares when people post that sort of comment. It’s only the over the top childish temper tantrum comments that suck.

What‘s ironic and funny is that the people who insult the players to most are the same folks who get the most offended by having it pointed out. Typical dish it out but can’t take it types.
Really. Im sure Pike didn't just say that the energy level is low. He better be more fired up than that lol

Only at RU do we have fans arguing and pointing fingers at fellow fans who rightfully were critical of the team during a poorly played first half of today’s game.

Enjoy the road win, no matter how we got it. Stop measuring the fandom of others.
Some fans are critical of everything they don’t like. There’s people who complain about the food, the bathrooms, the uniforms, players shoes, the refs, the parking, the band. Some people to me seem like they are just pissed at the world.

In the context of an entire game. Last second heroics only occur because of the rest of the game.
Look I never personally attack any college basketball player because that’s disrespectful and immature. I’m just wondering why fans who criticize the team when they’re playing horrible can’t speak the truth. It is my right to speak my mind when I want.

Never said they couldn’t. Whatever makes you happy. Seems like some folks are pissed at the world. I like to be positive. If you want to take yell at your tv, throw a brick at the tv or post crap, go right ahead. I think it’s healthier to wait for a loss to be annoyed.

I am not set up to post during the game but appreciate those that do as it may confirm bad calls I feel were made and kills time between commercials. I don't like calling out the players for bad plays but understand the frustration, calling out poor effort is fair game. I've defended Mulcahy in the past but he was brutal in the first half, good Pike stuck with him in the second half. The walk and charge calls were suspect during his great second half. Not sure if anyone noticed he was wide open with about a minute left desperately calling for the ball but we were trying to run out time, he wanted to nail another trey.

I can’t read through all these posts, but I think @ColonelRutgers had the best take on game threads. I try to avoid them but that’s just me. I always try to remember that when people react the way they do, it really comes from a deep place of caring about this university and program and wanting to win. Everyone wants the best for Rutgers, crazy reactions aside.

That said, GREAT EFFING WIN! Let’s enjoy this and bring it at the RAC on Wednesday!

Game thread is an absolute joke. Page 8 alone is a disgrace.

Saying our team has IQ of someone on the spectrum.

Calling out individual players saying they suck, personal attacks and trying to run them out of town.

GET A LIFE AND THE HELL OFF THE BOARD!

Oh by the way we won a road game by double digits you effing losers!
Did ya watch the game???

Nobody here is saying fans can't be critical of the play. Our team had a bad first half, nothing wrong with stating the obvious that way. Pretty much every player had a bad first half. Nothing wrong with saying that either.

But a post saying a player or coach is "on the spectrum" is not "critique" of any kind. It's an a-hole comment. Even the guy who made it admits it was an a-hole comment.

He would not be saying any player was "on the spectrum", or "sucks", would he? And if asked publicly about it, he'd say something constructively critical like "low energy level" or "poor rebounding". He most definitely wouldn't throw any particular player under a bus.

People are absolutely free to criticize the players in any way they wish. And people are free to criticize those who behave like children, utterly unable to control themselves and resist acting out on the forum. Which is what I'm doing.

The game thread, in the first half, reads like a kindergarten class full of budding juvenile delinquents. It deserves way more criticism than our players do for their poor first half performance.

This particular game thread was not any different than most. The tone of the comments are highly correlated to the quality of the team's play from possession to possession. Are some comments over the top? Sure but so are reaction threads like this. Not sure why this one provoked the outrage from the holier than thou "loyal" fan group. If you don't like the threads stay out of them. It not worth getting mad about.

I agree its difficult to watch and post simultaneously I tend to post at time outs if at all when watching.

I'd say you should get a life, mining game threads to grandstand. fans vent and react to the emotional rigors of a game in different ways. Game threads are what they are.

Are we not allowed to be critical of our team when we’re playing like ****? And than be positive About our team when we’re playing great? Suck it up
there is a difference between being critical and calling players retards.

some people on these boards take things way too far. It might be better to think, "Would I say this to this kids face", and if you wouldn't, don't post it.

This thread is silly. 100+ replies and no other thread is close after a great win. Game threads are shitshows. Lots of emotion and that’s fine IMO. I’ve yelled things at the kids on TV that I’m not proud of but that’s what being a die hard is all about. End of the day these are our guys and they have my respect, period.

I rarely come online during games - especially when we're losing. I'll be sure to steer way wide of the game thread.

or praise him for having 7 assists and 3 blocks that helped RU win
After the game and when he does it… for sure.
Can’t praise him before he does it.
He had a great drive to the hoop and got the goal tending call and made some nice passes in the second half.
Great win

No one should ever walk up to any player they see away from the arena and criticize him for throwing bricks.
You certainly can during the game.
Who said retard, one person…that’s obvious wrong

Yeah, because we're not capable of talking about more than one subject at the same time.

I dont know why dont you make a bunch of threads praising the team instead of skimming the game thread for negative posts, I see you arent commenting about the positivity in the game thread about the 2nd half.

Here's my problem with the spectrum comment. People who suffer from autism face huge challenges in this life. Using their condition to ridicule others is basically saying, "If you are on the spectrum, your condition is worthy of ridicule."

I don't like attacking players with any kind of comment, but it's especially offensive to use the challenges of others to demean people.

I know you don't. Being wrong is okay with you.

So do you infer some sort of personal value or sense of achievement from “being correct” on an internet message board? And calling out others?

I’m sorry about that and wish better for you.

But just a couple helpful hints to hopefully help things:
  1. Anything anyone types on a message board has zero impact on the actual team performance.
  2. Anything anyone types on a message board should have zero impact on your own enjoyment of the team.
  3. Don’t worry about or strive to gain validation from internet message boards. “Winning” on here has no long term benefits on your real life. This place isn’t real.
