I read that article (it's short) and he's basically saying, "Although I excited Dem voters, the Dem message didn't and thus when I was no longer running, the Dems lost." He's right. Take away an exciting Dem candidate like Obama and replace him with a bad candidate like Hillary and you've got trouble for the Dems.

That said, that means the Dems should try to hone their message so it appeals to voters instead of relying on a particularly exciting candidate to carry them to a win.
