Boy, you nailed it! If only we had addressed each of the items you listed, we definitely could have prevented a player from joining 2 of his best friends to play for a star coach at his dream school.Originally posted by chicagocatfan24:
Good. This is what NU gets. I have a friend who is an ND fan and him and I argue constantly about the state of NU. Two years ago I said they were on their way to becoming a perennial B1G contender. He has always been of the opinion that NU is a "loser program" and always will be one. I don't want to use that term per se, but after two less than mediocre years in a row, no changes to the coaching staff, sub-par recruiting, and no upgrades to the facilities other than a bigger scoreboard, it's hard to disagree with him. The last two commitments just reaffirm that to me. Hate to say it, but it's becoming more and more true to me every passing day.

Well the video is old but the tweet was new. And the high school teammate who tweeted it out earlier has deleted it. Could be because Perry told him to until he has a chance to tell NU, or could be because he was mistaken. We'll see.Originally posted by EvanstonCat:

He gone
Plus, if only we had addressed each of the items listed, we could have beaten a "winner program" like Notre Dame this past November. Oh wait, we did beat them. Sucks for them, I guess.Originally posted by villox:

What makes you think Northwestern could have offered enough money to get Harbaugh to come to Evanston (probably over $5MM annually) even if they wanted to?Originally posted by willycat:
villox, hey maybe NU should have offered that "star coach" and they would all be coming to school in Evanston.
Another total cognitive fail.Originally posted by willycat:
Oh, that's right NU is just about bankrupt, forgot.
Do you understand anything about how spending and allocation of funds work at universities, or do you just like tossing out ridiculous one liners?Originally posted by willycat:

Where did I say that NU is "just about bankrupt?" Is it really that outrageous to think that we don't have the same financial resources they can offer at Michigan, which would include commitments to the head coach, the salary pool for his assistants, recruiting, and everything else?Originally posted by willycat:

Duke has also made a TON of academic concessions to remain a top basketball program, which you shouldn't anticipate happening at Northwestern anytime soon. Notre Dame and USC have RIDICULOUS alumni support that we don't have at Northwestern. Stanford has garnered the support of one particularly generous donor and has leveraged their world-class education and campus.Originally posted by Turk:
I know duke pays coach K well and he is a star coach.
nu doesnt have a commitment to football. Other private schools have paid dearly (notre dame, usc, stanford).
Its not who we are. If our football team can shoot for about 4 bigten wins and nab them every once in a while under fitz then thats fine.

He doesn't want to go with coaches that didn't value his athletic skills until the last minute out of desperation. He want's to go with the team full of bright kids whose coaches choose to offer him early. We choose coaches who really want him!
He doesn't want to play with a bunch of brain-dead dummies who will drag him down from achieving his academic goals. He doesn't want to play with dumb stumps majoring in general studies who will wind up being bouncers and car dealers after college.
4 wins is "Walker Levels" -- he achieved that four out of seven seasons (57%). Fitz has achieved it 33% of the time. Nobody is arguing that Fitz doesn't have work to do.Originally posted by Turk:
Im sure we dont really shoot for 4 big wins.
But given the academic restrictions, 4 big wins should b the unwritten bar. I think fitz really could have raised it to walker levels, and still may but we have to win bowl games to sustain recruiting.
We make that 4th down play against osu and we just might have turned the corner. Then the union stuff and injuries and its back to the drawing board.
If thorson is healthy and good, we really could get back to 5 BIG wins this year.
What exactly did I write that wasn't true?! I've seen both sides of the academics issue in sports, dude. There is a HUGE difference between NU and programs like Michigan and Pitt with horrible graduation rates and worthless, BS majors. Pitt players told me about the apathy towards academics by most players and how much they hated it. That's where I got the "bouncer and car dealer" line...because that's what most players became after leaving Pitt.Originally posted by chicagocatfan24:
