So there are a lot of Billy Sims BBQ restaurants in Oklahoma (there's actually one in Burlington, IA too, lol). I finally stumbled into one after getting my hair cut next door this afternoon. After I sat down who do I see but Bobby Stoops and crew trying to tackle Sims. I guess this would have been the famous Hayden Fry "If I see anyone smiling I'm gonna bust 'em in the mouth" game in 1979 in Norman. Iowa played OU really tough before falling 20-6.

Would have expected Texas or NE or any other Big 8 opponent featured, but on the other hand maybe this is something of a nod to Stoops too, the future long-term OU coach 🤷‍♂️ .

Here's an actual picture from the game. What a madman Stoops was, lol!

Link to a pretty cool retrospective story about the game and Bobby Stoops: https://www.cfb51.com/big-ten/bob-stoops-billy-sims-hayden-fry-and-barry-alvarez/

Anyway, maybe this could be a running and fun thread of Hawkeye related "stuff" found in unexpected ways or locations 🤔.

To this day, I believe Billy Sims was the best running back I've ever seen. He was so fun to watch.

Injuries derailed him in College and the NFL, but he was doing some extraordinary things when healthy.

Won the Heisman as a junior at Oklahoma, then runner-up to Charles White his senior year. #1 overall draft pick to the Detroit Lions.

Back in the day when the Nebraska vs Oklahoma games were THE big games every year, Sims ran for 247 yards against the Husker's #1 ranked rushing defense! Yowser.

Anyway, loved Billy Sims, did not know he had all these restaurants, but good for him. He was truly something else on a football field.
