Really proud of the effort. Some bad turnovers, but my gosh the 8 on 5 sh*t in basketball gets old.

Happy that Ben isn't a raging lunatic.... Fran would have been tossed in this one
Don't need to mention Fran I am happy he was our Coach and brought us back from the biggest crater imaginable. We play defense and it is a must to win in March.

Having played two tough teams in Sparty and the Clowns, this should help Iowa going forward. Good to be tested like this early on.

On the road too.

I am very frustrated at the officiating, like many. Iowa had their own chances to come out on top and didn't do it, and that's the bottom line.

However, it is frustrating to see a team get 23 fts to 5 yet they cause 16 turnovers (11 steals and 6 blocks) to our 8 turnovers that we caused. How is the team that is causing double the amount of turnovers (ie- playing extremely aggressive D) not fouling while other team is fouling more but causing less turnovers?

I'm proud of this Hawks team. We get after these guys next year.

Great coaching to take the ball handling out of Stirtz's hands early. Not sure why we came back to it in the 2nd half. I like Sage better than Cooper at this point. Good game, good things are coming for the Hawks

I agree. There were numerous calls that didn't get a whistle and numerous whistles that shouldn't have been given the call. Our Ast/Turnover Ratio was 1.68 coming into this one. Obviously it will go down after tonight. Ben stresses "Controlling things that we can control" a lot. You can control turnovers, but trying to control what the referees see is tough when the calls aren't going your way.

IF we can get a roster full of Big Ten players, then good things are coming, otherwise not so much.

The boys we currently have collectively played a hell of a game tonight overall (too many bad turnovers), but it was a game they definitely could have won and didn't.

Ben likes Coop better (although different positions).

Coop clearly should be starting.

Have you watched the other games?

Very proud of Iowa. Stirtz wasn't good lose by 4 at #4 ISU. They will learn and get better from this. Next 5 games look very winnable. Take care of business, 13-2 and then Illinois at home Jan 13 vs Illinois. Need an awesome home court that night.
8-2.

Looking ahead I see Western Michigan on Sunday

Sage brings more intensity, defense and rebounding. Cooper is a better shooter. Take your watched other games and shove it

Dude, I can’t stand the dipshit ur arguing with, but he isn’t totally wrong here. Cooper has been pretty damn good to this point. But here’s the thing about this team, there’s option #1 in Stirtz and then on any given night you have different guys step up. Howard against GCU, Banks last night, Cooper against ol miss, Sage has given some dam good minutes.
When Ben says he recruits winners, you can tell. These guys all play balls to the wall and don’t back down regardless of who they’re up against.

I don’t understand how other teams that have a reputation for playing good defense are allowed to get away with murder, but teams like Iowa get whistled for touch and “phantom” fouls. It seems the Hawks are still being punished for having Fran as coach.

Hey refs…..Fran is gone. We no longer have a coach that yells and curses at you.

I think Ben should have gone a little more like Fran and yelled at the refs. We got manhandled all game and few fouls called.

I get it and I like Cooper a lot. He's a little stiff it seems to me. Sage is a very fluid athlete, much better defender it seems to me. Doesn't shoot it like Cooper can and both need work on rebounding.

Very simple - hand checks were not called last night, for whatever reason. ISU had better hope they get the same treatment come tournament time. Physical play always used to hurt the Big Ten when NCAA's came around and the officiating was no longer from the conference.

I kid you not. First thing said to me today by a Cyclone fan. "Can you belive how bad those refs were? I mean we were getting called for inconsistent fouls but I guess it was bad both ways."

I replied "you shot 18 more free throws than us while we doubled your turnovers. You had 11 steals and 6 blocks while we got to shoot 5 fts for the game."

They had no reply.
