Spurrier started with a rightly-earned warchest of credibility from which Beamer just as rightly did not benefit. Spurrier gave us the best four consecutive years we've ever had. Beamer will have to be here long enough to meet or exceed that. Until and unless he endures AND achieves to that level, he will never measure up to Spurrier.
None of that would matter with the NIL around. If you don't believe me, take it from Spurrier who has stated it multiple times.

The fact that Beamer is in the discussion after 5/6 season is really the point of it all.

LOL

They're shredding Mush-Chump's defense in the 4th quarter.
Probably by design, Will Muschamp has always worked for Georgia, he is their secret agent man, when not at Georgia, he is working at SEC programs of concern to Georgia, wrecking them from the inside, UF, Auburn, South Carolina, and now Texas.

It doesn't signify with me.

I've posted a litany showing just how close their performances have been over a very long period of time -- but that's irrelevant?

I tend to believe if someone had told you we would hire a coach on the heels of Muschamp that would give you these results over this stretch of time -- you would have taken it esp. given your were a big fan of Spurrier's accomplishments?

That's right. A poised coach would have called timeout, though, to at least set a defense, personnel, etc. You know it and I know it.
Not necessarily. I've seen coaches let that play out plenty of times because they don't want the offense to set. Offenses can typically find a way to get a couple of yards after a timeout.

Setting Spurrier's best four year stretch (something that had never and has never happened in gamecock football history) as the standard for judging a head coach seems like a recipe for eternal disappointment. You also have to keep in mind, outside of the four (three really) great seasons, Spurrier was really only a win a season or so better than the historical average for SC football.

Has anyone actually said that the 4 year span should be judged as the standard?

The closest I've seen is some posters saying that because Steve did it, it shows that we CAN do it, and dont always have to settle.

A very long period of time? Really? Make no presumptions, I saw Muschamp give us a promising year, a good year, and a disintegration into nothing. I saw that BEFORE we hired Beamer. Folks just like Beamer better due to his personality AND his prior affiliation with Spurrier.

It was obvious to a blind man they were readier than we were. They knew what they were going to do and we most certainly didn't.

You are gaslighting here. Muschamp was a disaster after three seasons.

I've posted numbers which show Beamer and Spurrier have little separation after 5.5 seasons and I think we both can agree Beamer has had the more difficult road in this era.

And yes - 5.5 seasons at South Carolina is a long period of time. Again, the average college coach goes approx. 4 years.

I'd say folks like Beamer because the games are always interesting (style of play), he's beaten Clemson twice already on their home field -- breaking their forever streak, he's the first coach to beat 4 ranked teams in one season, he's beaten several Top 10 teams, etc.

IMO, if it wasn't for the Mike Shula gaffe (and that's on Beamer) --- Sellers has continuation last year and we're still talking about Beamer actually being up on Spurrier in the total wins as well.
