Which would have him ready to go as redshirt freshman.Adrian Martinez is solid for at least 2 more years.

Always a possibility. That's why you need a bonified starter as a backupUnless he gets hurt............

AgreedGotta keep Smothers. Really good prospect for this system.
does mississippi still have men going around carrying deep, deep bags?
Im not an insider, but is there any question on his commitment, as he just was offered and unofficially visited Ole Miss a few weeks back. TOS has Ole Miss as warm.
Good player, I could see him getting even more attention as he goes. Hope we land him.

He can redshirt, come out and play after AM declares after Year 3.
GBR
P.S. My timeline might be off, but it's Tuesday, so you get the drift...
What about McCaffrey?

Frost needs to step-up the QB recruiting, but nobody wants to play behind AM right now, he's that good.
Could always "Out-Pirate" a transfer...

Wait till they see what AM does next year. We'll get who we want.
Could you cut it out for once? Your constant stream of negativity is really getting old. You seem to take some kind of perverse joy out of always being the negative one. If the entire fanbase had your attitude, we'd shut the program down because we can't ever seem to do anything right and never have anything to look forward to. It's just doom and gloom 24/7 from you. and I for one have had it. Sometimes I wonder why you even bother following a program that you can't ever seem to find anything to be optimistic about-except to pump up yourself as the "smart, knowledgeable one", who isn't afraid to "tell it like it is."Just like we did with all the D linemen after Suh?

Do you really think that Frost's staff sucks as badly at recruiting as Carl and Bo did? Carl especially was a GINORMOUS liability on the recruiting trail. Can you imagine that dipsh## in somebody's living room? I would rather let an Old English Sheepdog full of cockle burrs and sheep manure in my living room than Carl Pelini.Just like we did with all the D linemen after Suh?
In a sense, we're comparing apples and oranges anyway. With Suh, we had a different coach who recruited him than the one who was supposed to capitalize on his success. With Frost, we have the same coach who recruited AM and will try to capitalize on his success. But don't expect Mr. Negativity to acknowledge that.Do you really think that Frost's staff sucks as badly at recruiting as Carl and Bo did? This is how I want McCaffrey used. Start developing him at QB but get him on the field in a WR/RB role as soon as you can. He certainly should have the football smarts for it coming from an NFL family. I think he could be a hell of a safety but I doubt he'll go for that.My guess is McCaffery is going to be used as a WR if it becomes clear that he isn't needed as a b/u in his redshirt freshman year. Then if Smothers is the real deal and depending on future recruits, he might be moved there permanently if playing QB isn't a make or break deal for him. Coaches may have recruited him with this in mind knowing how good AM is and what they have with Smothers.
Then again, I could be totally wrong.
I think McCaffrey could end up playing WR at the college level. He's not going to beat out Martinez, so it will be hard to keep him on the bench for 3 years. Then you have Smothers coming up behind him.
NO! We have seen far too many times out starting QB get injured the past few years. We need serviceable back ups. Let’s see what we can do with him at QB for 1yr
Just like we did with all the D linemen after Suh?
It also helps if kids are honest with themselves. Some players are given the keys to an offense well before they are ready and it really stunts their growth as a player. We were lucky that Martinez was both mentally and physically ready to compete for the job, but some kids just are not ready for big time football as a freshman or sophomore.Agree .. but highly recruited QBs don’t come to schools to be serviceable backups and maybe play if the starter gets injured. There is going to be a great deal of turnover in that position nationally. Mosy kids are looking to be able to compete for starting job at a minimum year 2 in the program - and when I say compete I mean starting fall camp on equal footing with the other QBs in the room - not being given lip service about the opportunity to beat out a multi year starter that is putting up huge numbers.
Challenging to recruit a high profile qb when you have a freshman already lighting it up looking at 3 more years. Good problem to have.
All kids want early playing time, that is more difficult to manage at QB than any other position where #2 on the depth chart may rarely see the field.
What is wrong with the current QB recruiting? McCaffery is committed and so is Smothers.
