He left last night's game in the second quarter and didn't return, anyone hear what happened? Hopefully it wasn't anything serious like a knee or shoulder injury.
Its not like Frost is going to play anyone but Martinez (unless its due to injury) for the next two years anyways so he will have plenty of time to heal.
I know this is a popular narrative, but I see McCaffrey making a run at the starting job this spring. I could be completely wrong, but I think McCaffrey will, at a minimum, split time with Martinez next year. Its not like Frost is going to play anyone but Martinez (unless its due to injury) for the next two years anyways so he will have plenty of time to heal.
You sick, twisted masochistic SOBEveryday I come on this board looking for good news. Everyday I'm let down!
I agree. People are too hard on Frost about the QB situation this year, myself included (sadly, which I regret). Because the fact is Frost did develop specific plays for Luke ... plays that were very successful. It is clear, therefore, that he recognizes Luke’s athleticism and skill set and wants to use them. So my guess is that even if Martinez is our starter next year, we will see a lot of Luke as well. And given that Martinez seems a bit smitten with the injury bug, we will probably see Luke start a few games.I know this is a popular narrative, but I see McCaffrey making a run at the starting job this spring. Don't forget that Luke got time in four late games this year. It's not like he was ready to go out and just run the full offense day one. 5 wins sucks but I agree with the decision to keep Luke's redshirt, I also love the decision to rep him at WR so they can get him on the field.I agree. It's a different offense if Luke is your QB. His ceiling as a passer is not as high as Adrian's at this point. His ceiling as a runner is higher than Adrian's.
To be fair, Adrian's (probable) injury limited his accuracy and made it a wash because he wasn't accurate this year either. But the *idea* of the offense is that there are a lot of accurate, timing throws that need to happen such as the bubble screen action on the RPO and pure accuracy is not Luke's strong suit.
It's an offense that has a lot more "automatic" reads than something like a WCO. It's a lot of counting the numbers and "If they go here, you throw there" stuff pre-snap. So you gotta be able to put the ball where it goes when it goes there.
IMO Frost wants something in the neighborhood of a 50/50 run pass ratio. For Luke to be successful that has to change, he needs to be a 20 attempt guy where you're running to set up play-action and he's running lots of zone-read and triple option where the third option is NOT a throw out into the flat.
Agree with all your points. I just don't think Frost felt McCaffrey would be anywhere near ready to unseat Martinez this season, so he decided to redshirt McCaffrey. Based on everything we saw from Martinez in 2018 - from the great plays to the bad freshman mistakes - that seemed like a very reasonable decision at the time.Don't forget that Luke got time in four late games this year. IMO Frost wants something in the neighborhood of a 50/50 run pass ratio. That ends up looking like 30-ish pass attempts per game.
