It won't surprise me if drew just retires. If he does, I hope the saints win just enough to not get a good qb in the draft
I would. He's probably only has 1 more year left in him anyway.....why put up with the bs. And I would move out of N.O.

Say whatever you want about Kap, but he has been very clear what the intent of his protest was and it isnt what Brees is talking about. He consulted with a vet to at least make an attempt at respectfully protesting.

And many people supporting the confederate battle flag or modern flags that incorporate it or monuments to confederate related people or entities are very clear that it has nothing to do with racism or slavery. If he really wanted to get his point across and actually influence people rather than **** on the flag, he'd have been better served doing a protest that wouldn't be interpreted as disrespectufl to the country, flag, or service men. If you're a "nobody", sometimes you have to do something outrageous to get people's attention. He had the platform to do it without trying for outrage.

Just to be clear, I am certainly not endorsing Brees’ blackballing or “cancellation.” I’m only saying what is possible. And his opinion is one that’s not going to be tolerated in heavy liberal areas of society (sports, media, universities, etc).

He did come out and apologize now. Not for what he thought, but only for saying it. We will see if that’s good enough. It might come down to whether he kneels for the national anthem with all of his teammmates.

I don’t think he survives. A small but real chance it costs him the Hall of Fame when it comes up in a few years. It wouldn’t if voting were today. But in a few years.......I see a scenario that’s he’s blackballed.

Where's the gotcha moment MrKunter? I genuinely want to know what tweets on Thomas's page are so absolutely detestable. I only went back about two weeks so maybe 7 can help me out.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s a sad day when one must apologize for their stating thoughts? We are living in a day where everyone’s opinion is valued unless it differs from the groupthink. This is “tolerance” at its best.***

Yup those certainly qualify as examples of an absolutely detestable twitter to follow. Appreciate the links.

Yes, and social media makes it a million times worse on all sides. It removes the critically important part of the statement process where one stops, thinks, and re-thinks prior to making a statement. It also tricks people into thinking they’re driving action when all they’re really doing is stirring up more lack of action because everyone can’t wait to respond on Twitter with more tweets

3 years ago all he would have to say is, “I agree with you guys, I just don’t like the method of your protest.” Within a week it would blow over. These days, the outrage and Twitter mob let you know what your opinion is, and if you have the gall to differ, they try that cancel culture ********.

I just wish I had a job where I was making millions and I could get paid while protesting on the job. Only in America.

The media and the loudest, whining mouthpieces on social media don't constitute the majority of American's opinions. Only someone with their mind already made up and with zero reasoning skills would disagree with what Drew said.

Thankfully, the majority of people in this country (who don't moan and complain on various media outlets) agree with Drew. Regardless of what your personal opinions are, it's a fact that most people agree that there is a line drawn between protesting and disrespecting. You can be for both the protest, and the flag. Period. Only small, weak minded can't grasp this fact.

With all of that said........ Drew probably should have just let the question go. Even though he was 100% set up in the interview. Poor timing. I'll tell him the same thing I said when Kap was kneeling..... "just shut up and play."

It’s really pathetic that Brees is being hammered for following 36 U.S. Code § 301. National anthem.

It’s even worse that millions of people don’t understand or care that protesting during the National Anthem misses the mark.

Here’s the thing, he didn’t have to apologize. He could have stood his ground if he believed what he said. Everybody is free to an opinion, nobody is free from backlash.

He shouldn’t of caved to the bullying. Maybe if he would’ve stood firm, others would’ve joined him.

I don't see how people take issue at the take a knee thing (which is always deferential and humble in other contexts) before the American flag. That stance feels like it implies that there are not things in America to be grieved and changed. I suspect that those same folks take substantial issue with changing of the MS flag, which is nothing more than a Reconstruction era snub intended to send a message to black Mississippians about where they could stick their Reconstruction. The abandonment of Reconstruction and institution of Jim Crowe laws is why we are where we are now. The can got kicked to 2020.

I am excited to see this: https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/remove-the-confederate-4 come out of all of this. Tate could seal his legacy by stepping up and making a flag change for all the right reasons right now and propel this state forward by a century or so.

You cannot be honest and objective and claim that the Confederate Battle flag embedded on the MS flag has nothing to do with racism or slavery. It was literally added to the flag after the south lost the Civil war, post Reconstruction, in honor of General P.G.T. Beauregard who commanded Rebel forces.

ETA: to say "added to" is not completely correct. MS had had state flags prior to then that were benign, but at the time of creation did not have an official flag

This will blow over pretty quickly - they'll be on to someone else in a few days.

But when football season starts, they'll be sure to bring it up every week.

Which would begin to stop all this nonsense. It is possible to be outraged at what happened to George Floyd and demand justice for the guy who killed him, and at the same time, love your country and defend the flag. It is possible to agree that we can better train our police force while at the same time disagree with the idiotic narrative that cops are hunting black people and committing genocide. It is possible that we can come together as a country and agree to disagree on certain topics while still respecting each other. And it's possible to protest in this country while not robbing, looting, and killing people.

This country has a heart problem. Everyone on both sides of the argument needs to look inward and ask themselves what they, individually, can do to make it better. Some of us can be sensitive to what has been a historical issue and reach out a hand to help. Some of us can acknowledge that cops, generally speaking aren't the enemy. Some of us can stop shooting up neighborhoods and committing violent crimes that result in cop interactions. Some of us can take responsibility for our kids and raise them in a way that they respect each other, respect authority, and take responsibility for their own actions. Until this heart problem is solved, this will never get fixed. And now I'm off my soap box.

I just don’t think Brees should have issues an apology. An apology for what? He just said I don’t agree with ever kneeling during the anthem as it is disrespectful to the country and those who fought for our freedom. He NEVER said he doesn’t support the equal justice/police brutality/any other cause. What does it have to be one way or the other?! I agree with Bees’ beliefs, like 90% of Americans.

I am more upset with his weak *** coward teammates going on social media and throw **** his way. He has earned way more respect than that and they all know who Drew Brees is. Pick up the damn phone and call him directly!! Way to have his back you weak jackasses!

I agree with this and wish someone (maybe Brees) would suggest it....."you know what? I'll show you where my heart is. I'll kneel with you to make my point along side you. But let's do it during the coin toss or let's do it just prior to the anthem but then let's all stand in unity once the anthem begins and the flag is displayed. Let's do this so that EVERYONE understands where our focus is and so that we can end the divisiveness of this kneeling. That way no one can take issue w/ it by saying we're disrespecting the flag or those who died fighting under it...…". Is this not an easy solution? But no, everyone digs their damn heels in and refuses to consider ANYTHING else.

When the season starts this will get ugly again for Drew. Because i expect the large majority of NFL players to kneel for the national anthem. I don’t think Drew is going to kneel. Imagine if all his teammates kneel and he doesn’t. All this will blow up again.

Will goodell allow it? He's nipped that one time already, and he also made a concerted effort to get back the patriotic fans

I’d tell my teammates How I feel and if they tell me to shut the 17 up I’d retire and say good luck going 4-12 you bunch of bums. Deuces. Without Drew Brees that franchise would be garbage just like the city it’s in.

Disagreeing that kneeling is the course for change is racist?

What if you just fundamentally don’t like colin kaepernick, is that racist as well?

According to the woke mob, absolutely. That's why there's no use in trying to be reasonable with these people.

"he wouldn't understand" is a dog whistle for "he's part of the problem," or "he's racist," which is what other folks have come out and said about it. Only low IQ people think this way.

"Low IQ" ha. Speaking of dog whistles. No he was saying Brees wouldn't understand because he wasn't a black man. That doesn't equate to Brees is racist. Thomas and Brees are going to be ok.

Players responding to him are saying that he doesn’t get it. Maybe there’s something wrong with the way the message is being delivered if an active team captain isn’t getting the message.
