Could you expound on this? I am genuinely curious as to what laws, etc. separate and/or exclude based specifically on race.

Also, if I'm being honest, it kind of bugs me when people from certain parts of the country jump at every opportunity to lecture Mississippians about how racist and oppressive we are. Take somewhere like, I don't know, let's just say Iowa for example......Iowa is 91% white and 3.5% black, whereas MS is 62% white and 37% black. How could someone who has chosen to live in Iowa -- one of the whitest, most non-diverse places in the world -- feel like they were the proper authority to talk down to anybody about the way that they interact with minorities? Anyway, just a random thought.

First, I grew up in the Chicagoland area- lived 22 years amongst millions of racially, socially, and ethnically diverse people. Then add college in Missippi. I dont think I am an authority on race, but I have lived in and among people from dozens of cultures for decades.

Second, while Iowa is 90% white, that doesnt mean it isn't culturally diverse. More specifically, the metro where I live has significant Bosnian, SE Asian, and Sudanese populations. Also, Hispanic is part of that white demographic, even though historically they too are an oppressed/discouraged group. The demographics where I live is different from the overall state and is not the whitest or most nondiverse places in the world.

Third, am I talking down to you and the collective state of Mississippi about race? Sure dont think so. I simply stared things that are well known and established.
Did you even read past #3? The very next sentence I say- As to #3, that doesnt mean all the people within the state are racist. Hell it doesnt even mean that many are racist.
I clearly say I am not accusing all or even many within Mississippi are racist, yet you ramble on and say I think that.

Anyways, bias is the new racist.

Excuse my naivety but I have an honest question....who are the current victims of the racism you speak of and how so ?

It's pretty damn racist to have only one Planned Parenthood in a state made up of over 40% non-whites that has consistently been in the bottom three poorest state's in the nation since the civil war ended. Probably could make a pretty good argument that it's also pretty damn racist to suddenly show up and deport over 600 hispanics from one single chicken factory basically ensuring you fracture and eliminate 600 families from improving their situations for a generation or so. Also don't forget about the good ol boy district attorney that rejected something like 44 black jurors to keep a black guy in jail for a crime he most likely didn't commit for the last twenty years. There may be a lot of non-racist individuals that live in MS but the politics/government is a racist as it gets in this country. Still.

Mississippi has been in the crucible of race relations so long that I largely think traditional racism is dead here.

White flight is probably one of the worst modern day examples of racism. It is more of an urban issue, but it is racism and happens everywhere.

Question. If a black guy chose to leave a mostly white neighborhood to move to a mostly black neighborhood because he was more comfortable being around other black folks, would he be considered racist ?

If he moved because he knows people in the new neighborhood, then no it isnt.
If he moved simply because he knows the new neighborhood is made up of people his color, then sure he is.

There are then exceptions to this opinion of mine. For example, 1st and 2nd gen immigrants that congregate to an area simply because that area is known to have others from the same country/culture isn't racist...its surviving.

But all that is neither here nor there. Redlining isn't dead(unlike your claim), historical redlining still affects groups today, and governmental decisions often times affect races and cultures more than individual citizens affect those same races and cultures thru daily treatment.

So you're saying having additional abortion factories and aborting more black babies would be a sign of less racism? Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger would disagree with you.

That's exactly what he said. His was an extremely racist statement. Why do you want to see black babies aborted 61? Serious question.

Absurd logical fallacy.

61 didnt say what you asked if he said. Didnt at all say that or even suggest it. You chose to interpret the comment into a way that is race based.
Be better than that.

PP offers many different services besides just providing abortions there geniuses. I'd rather do just about anything than have an abortion debate with MAGA voters so you two can go kick rocks.

I actually think it made Mississippians look very, very positive to a wide audience.
My only problem with the reactions was with the first white woman who got up and said “You shouldn’t do this...in front of those kids”...as if it were ok to do it quietly, without letting them know.

If my reading of his statement is so far off, please tell me what the correct interpretation is. And it's pretty strange for you to claim that I'm improperly interjecting race into his comment when he used the phrase, "It's pretty damn racist . . ."

Are we really supposed to believe that you had these "many different services", rather than abortion, in mind when you injected Planned Parenthood into the discussion?

It's okay to own your comment. In fact, I'd really like to hear the explanation for why a lack of Planned Parenthood facilities in a particular state is racist.

No shock that you’re neck deep in what this thread has turned into.

Two weeks to go...Two weeks to go...

17 off. I didnt bring this **** up, and as mentioned, I didnt even know the abortion reference until it was spelled out.
Remove my posts from this thread and the same shot would still be discussed.

I actually struck up a conversation with a former Pentecostal lady at a DFW bar this week and when I said I was from MS, she asked if we really were as racist is they say! It was quite eye opening. And I said to her, people still want to believe it is the 1960’s.

And I’m very proud of that segment and it showing the true Mississippi now.

You've obviously never visited a PP before and have zero idea what you're talking about. The most basic function of the facility is right in the name bud. One of the most awesome things PP does is provide free contraceptives for patients which you should be totally ecstatic over since you want to save all the fetuses in this country yet somehow I don't think you think that's awesome at all. They also provide many services at very affordable prices to help out the many in this country that can't afford health insurance. Educate your mind instead of labeling something you known nothing about a baby killing factory.

I'm not a MAGA voter and that was the logical straight line computational result of what you said. I take it you are retracting that statement? I would if I were you. That is one of the most blatant hardcore racist posts I have ever seen on the internet.

"I'm not a MAGA voter" yea sure you're not. I never made that statement either bud you did. I said it's pretty damn racist to only provide one PP for an entire state especially one that's over 40% minority and is consistently one of the most poor state's in the nation. You and tweedle dumb came into the thread inferring I was talking about killing more black babies. Not what I said at all. It's what you said.

Have you been in one?

I have not, but my wife's best friend has. She’ll tell you about it. Did you know that they will not let you exit through the front door after an abortion? They make you walk out the back door, same door they take the trash out. Why are they not allowed to go back through the waiting room? Because the tears streaming down their face will make all their other customers get up and run out. No one working there gives one **** about those women.

And providing free contraceptives? That’s a ridiculous justification for existence. No one in This country is so poor that they can’t buy a condom for every time they have sex.

You're correct that I've never visited a PP facility before. I'm thankful that such is the case and pray that I don't have a reason to visit one in the future. However, that's very much beside the point: one doesn't have to physically enter a business to have a good idea of what goes on there.

I'm not opposed to free and more readily available contraceptives. In fact, I support the Republican Senate bill that would make birth control pills over-the-counter and therefore more accessible. Democrats and PP oppose this bill, by the way.

But let's get back to your initial statement. You're still clinging to the ludicrous claim that your reference to PP had nothing to do with abortion. Let's let you off the hook for just a moment and take abortion off the table. Let's assume that all PP facilities perform no abortions and simply dole out free birth control and the like. Even under this rosy scenario, I still can't see why you think the lack of PP facilities in Mississippi is the result of some racist plot.

I would think your typical racist would want to limit the population of groups he finds undesirable (this was the motivation for the founding of Planned Parenthood). Picture some racist redneck saying, "Hey, I've got a great idea. Let's make sure we keep birth control away from blacks, especially the free kind given out at those wonderful PP facilities. That will cause them to have lots of babies who will eventually outnumber us and outvote us and . . . oh, wait."

So, again, please enlighten us about this racist plot in the Magnolia state that would (gasp) increase the minority population.
