I didn’t realize just how few black students went to other P5 schools. We have the highest percentage of black students among schools in that list, and nobody else is really even close.

Texas A&M’s student body is only 3% black, which is shocking to me. Take out athletes and it’s probably 1-2%.

It always amazes me that most people don't realize Mississippi has the highest black population by % in the US. People who've never been in the southeastern US literally think the whole state is nothing but racist white people - when it's actually one of the least white states in the nation.

and most black elected officials and will be the first majority black state (40 or 50 years down the road).

Add in the 5-10% white democrat voters, Mississippis will vote blue sooner than that (as the white population declines).

Both statements can be true here... It can have the highest population of black people and still have a whole bunch of racist white people... That vocal minority has been pretty powerful in getting their agenda across and keeping the power. Don't believe me? Go look up the figures on how many white people lived in MS and how many black people lived in MS pre civil war... And the vocal minority still carried a pretty big stick (or noose)

Concur, but when democrats start winning statewide elections, that will start changing. Political power means everything, look how much the current admin has changed the country in a few months. Democrats wield power much more effectively than republicans (Trump being an exception). Republicans generally want the "govern from the middle" and "reach across the aisle" while democrats ram it down your throat.
