Howland is about to put one helluva recruiting class together for this 2016 class. Arguably MSU's best.
We have accused OM's football class with Nkimdechee and Tunsill to be shady at best. New BB coach that is blowing to doors off of recruiting. It is exciting to see but does anybody else have reservations of how this is is unfolding? Maybe just my pessimism. What say the pac?

We get a top named coach with a good history of player development and you ask this question? There's no way you are a true Dawg fan to come on a message board starting this. He's an incredible coach that we never thought we'd get. And, with the SEC down, he's the perfect coach to pull in top rated talent. Take your questions to another board. I'm just thankful we have a quality coach for once in a long time.

The players Howland is recruiting aren't being sold on what they can make playing in Starkville. They're being sold on where he can put them in the NBA draft. That's where their payoff is. And he has a long record of producing.

Howland is one of the most accomplished CBB coaches of the past two decades- one of only two coaches in a long time to lead a program to three straight final fours. He is a proven recruiter and NBA developer that has pulled in top rated recruiting classes everywhere he's been. Only a handful of CBB coaches have put as many players in the NBA as him... And we are about to sign a class full of top 50-100 players, all rated as four stars with some being close to five stars. In other words, really really good players but not elite McDonald's AA types.

Freeze had proven literally nothing- except he can lead a team to 6-6. He comes from the mighty powerhouses of Lambuth, Arkansas State, and Briarcrest Christian girls basketball and had not put a single player into the NFL as a HC in his career... And he somehow signed the four best players at their respective positions in high school football in his first class.

One of these actually makes some sense while the other does not. Stupid thread is stupid.

Arguably MSU's best? You serious, Clark? Do you remember any coaches prior to Rick Ray? Howland's first MSU class (#10, 74, 90) and his second class (#70, 78 ). Stansbury had a class in 2005 with #3, 32, 38, and 49. Let that sink in. Only 10 years ago. For more, 2003 (#17, #36). Stansbury had Top 100 players EVERY year from 2003 to 2009.
Mississippi State has a storied basketball history (pre-integration and post-integration). Ole Miss had a storied football history, pre-integration only.
Mississippi State's coach has coached 3 Final Fours. UM - girl's state basketball championship
Mississippi State commited the best players in Mississippi (Newman, Carter, Weatherspoon), Freeze signed the best player in Georgia, Florida and Illinois (all with no connection other than they wanted to play for the girls basketball coach in his new gig. )
Mississippi State's commits play at their father's alma mater (Newman, Carter), Treadwell tweeted photos of cash after his commitment.
Howland is having some success at recruiting but he still hasn't returned basketball recruiting to the excellence that our history has known. Hugh's unprecedented class out of left field was followed by 2 regular Ole Miss classes. What does that tell you? ;)

How many sweet sixteens has howland been to, and how many had freeze led his team to before putting together his class? #basketballongrass

Hello Rev Freeze, you are a hypocrite, snakeoil Christian & a redneck bafoon!

the Reverend Freeze uses the health & wealth gospel of his modern-day hypocritical Christianity as his "christian-stitch" to reel in/fool parents and recruits, banking on the fact that nobody will recognize the "wolf-in-sheep's clothing" gospel of preaching God winning football games. He is no different than any other TSUN black bear football coach who would sell their damn soul and manufacture a false religious narrative to buy a top-rated recruit.

Howland is an experienced head coach who has facts to back-up his recruiting and development of NBA players. Not snake-oil and smoke/mirrors of "basketball on grass" of Freeze. You can trust what Howland says because he has a proven record.

I wouldn't trust a damn word Freeze would say because he is a fly-by-night christian, non-educated, fools-gold, redneck who loves (wait for it)...NASCAR? Let that sink in...NASCAR!

Freeze was an unknown signing top classes out of the gate. Howland is a known HC with a top resume recruiting well from the start. Totally different.

Howland has a record of producing greatness, Love, Westbrook, etc. When Freeze started pulling top classes his only coaching accomplishments had been girls basketball and Ark State football.

I seem to remember you and Coach34 boasting about Stansbury and his recruiting saying the exact same thing as the above poster.

That football.. Your and idiot too...

The real question is when will Howland beat a Top 25 team. Too soon?**

We were #1 last year too, I know...
Have we beaten a team that finished the season ranked in the Top 20 since Ole Miss in 2009?
Here's a new question... Can we finish off the year with some wins or will we just fade away like usual?
Let's stop the November Slide and get wins over Bama, Arky, and Northern Miss...
Mullen has posted a 10-14 record in the month of November, a 41.67% winning percentage.

In basketball, it's "Can we ever get back to the Sweet 16"? or "Live and Die by the 3 ball".

I have faith in Howland, he is a proven hire, unlike the last 2 we had in S-Vegas..
He can recuit and coach...
Final 4 or Bust... In Howland we Trust...

"Known to be the second biggest buyer of players in the SEC." I believe that was what was said.

I know we paid players under Stans and I heard the network is up and running now

Trust me, The Renardo Sidney Show wasn't free.
I am not saying that Stans had anything to do with actually paying anyone.
The network goes through the AAU circuit and AAU coaches or players handlers.
Shoe companies also play a role.
(You all know this..)
Howland also knows how to play the game and I am glad that he does...
He can also coach the players up once they get to S-vegas...
All is well with MSU basketball...
Hail State !!

21 players in NBA...21! And he took a no-name Russell Westbrook (2*,3*) and well you see who Westbrook is now. Players see that he puts people in the NBA and that is all these players care about.

Name me one college basketball coach that has ever had ANY kind of success that didn't cheat.

Really you could say the same for college football too. You can't win completely clean. It doesn't happen, anywhere.

GREAT POINT!! It aint like Freeze was tearing it up at a power school. That is what makes what's going on in Oxford so suspicious.

Probably 30 years ago, Sports Illustrated had a story on basketball recruiting. One quote has stayed with me. It was from someone in the NCAA enforcement staff. He said that he was convinced that every single head coach in the country had committed a major violation at some point in his career. It's been 30 years, but I'm sure it still applies. To both basketball and football.

Show me a future hall of fame college basketball coach, and I'll show you where the NCAA has hammered them at some point. If you want to play completely by the rule book, college basketball is not the place for you.
