I'd love to try some of the Mid-west breweries. I'm not much of a drinker but I do like a good beer or cerveza with a meal and I try to pick my beer to pair well with my meal.

San Diego county has a large and vibrant Craft Brewery scene. At one point there were 70 craft or microbreweries in the county. (There may be even more now) Our local Costco tries to support the local craft brew scene. I usually try to pick up a case when they have a variety pack from one of the local San Diego breweries.

Some are very large and well known, while others are only local microbreweries. Some of the bigger ones are Stone and Ballast Point but there many many more to try. AleSmith, Belching Beaver, Coronado, Green Flash, Indian Joe, Iron Fist, Latitude 33, Mission, Modern Times, Mother Earth, Port Brewing / The Lost Abbey just to name a few. There are Limo Brewery Tours you can go on. (Just like in Wine Country)

A list of some of my favorites.

AleSmith: Nut Brown Ale, Speedway Stout

Belching Beaver: Peanut Butter Stout

Ballast Point: Sculpin / Grapefruit Sculpin, Black Marlin Porter

Green Flash: West Coast IPA

Modern Times: Blazing World Hoppy Dank Amber, Black House Coffee Roasty Stout

Stone: Delicious IPA, Pataskala Red X IPA, Ruination Double IPA, Xocoveza Imperial Stout. They used to make a Smoked Porter and an Old Guardian Barleywine that I loved but are now discontinued. (Stone Brewing is just 2 miles from my house so that is why there are more beers from Stone)

Of course, if I’m eating Mexican food I normally choose a Mexican Cerveza. (Such as Modelo Especial or Negra)

Lincoln has a Green Flash now. I hope to brewery hop in San Diego someday.

I had a NE IPA a year or so ago while traveling in Denver. One of the best beers I've ever had. At the time, I didn't realize NE IPA was a thing. I think I need more. Correction...I definitely need more. Any suggestions on a solid NE IPA that would be available at your local (KC area) liquor store?

See if toppling Goliath is available near you. I get it on the east coast so I imagine it would be? The style will have a hard time catching on with many large breweries with mass distribution as the shelf life is fairly short compared to most beers.

Thanks! I like beer at least as much as Justice Kavanaugh but I haven’t heard of any of these (that’s a joke people, let’s not get derailed).

I generally get my beer at Ralphs or Trader Joe’s and opt for Trumer Pils, a Modern Times rotational, Angel City’s IPA or pils, Lagunitas’ IPA or Pils, or Sculpin as far as the local stuff goes. Usually depends on how much I want to spend. I don’t recall seeing any of the beers you listed there.
CC, You still up in Riverside? I was up there yesterday for a project meeting. I'm consulting on the Student Dormitories they are building off on Linden St.

I live in west LA but I’m still at UCR for another quarter or two. On leave this quarter to take care of our newborn daughter and finish my dissertation or else I’d propose we meet up for lunch! (Assuming your trip wasn’t a one time thing ...)

I'm sure I'll be up there again. Congrats on the newborn!

If you're a fan of russian imperial stouts or ipas (especially ddh and super high abv, 18%) their best are fantastic and they offer varieties you rarely find other places. In my opinion their 2nd anniversary Templeton rye barrel aged white stout, monte grande and a few other ris theyve brewed are as good of a beer as I've ever had.

My favorite local MicroBrew is Lewis and Clark Brewery in Helena MT. Weizenbock at 9.2% is my addiction!

https://lewisandclarkbrewing.com/beer/big-belt-weizenbock/

A few of my serious beer drinking buddies had 5 days to hit all the micros in MT.... They hit all but three and it took them 6 days..... Had two beers at each place! Hell of a vacation!

Appreciate this because I am making a Montana hiking/brewery trip here in July!

For local breweries Boiler is far and away the best and I'd put their best beers up against just about anyone.
The only issue with Boiler is they get stuck focusing on the fads a little too much and at the end of the day sometimes I just want a basic beer. Love their Dunkel though and most stouts are very good. I do appreciate Tim's willingness to explore and even introduce quality Mead's to Nebraska.

Based on that I'd have to put White Elm as my top Lincoln Brewery but both are delicious in their own way. I just like that White Elm has a little bit more stability with their tap list and a solid veriety of what I would call more 'beer' flavored beers.

I also have a hard time respecting a brewery that won't allow you to sample the beer before buying it. Having gone to 100's of breweries nationwide this is the only one to ever deny a sample request. Seems a tad snooty imo.

I’ve had many of their beers. The templeton rye stout was probably the best ive had from them. They do a lot of interesting things and have great variety...but they aren’t making many (if any) truly world class beers.

Whatever you do, dont purposefully drink Goose Island's Cucumber&Lime beer.
I had a bottle of Goose Island something or another a few years ago. It was so awful that I refuse to try another of theirs. The only other "bad beer" I've ever had was a Grolsch. Yuuk.

The other 2 in the pack werent bad for a more mainstream beer. Its not quite a macro, but definitely not "micro"

White Elm I believe has Apple Brandy Champurrado right now, I would put that on par with a lot of beers out there on the high trade market. Champurrado is delicious in itself!

Have you had Apple Brandy Noir? If so, how do they measure up?

I haven't had Apple Brandy Champurrado, but I have had Prairie Apple Brandy Noir and it is really good. The Champurrado base is definitely more mexican spiced if you will
