Let's be honest. It could have went down a bit differently than we are perceiving. A guy "mistakes" it for a noose. Tells someone who then tells someone who then blows it up to the media. Forces the hand of Wallace and NASCAR to make statements, assuming what they were being told was legit. That sounds plausible to me. This Wallace guy seems pretty solid and the Petty family certainly is.
I think that is exactly what happened. I kinda hinted at it but that is where my mind went from the very start.
Right now the team sizes are cut to 12. Normally they have 25 or more. There is always someone stationed in the garage with a radio so if some part breaks that they dont have in the crash cart they can radio the garagr and have someone grab it and cart it over to the pits. Garage could be several thousand feet from pit stall. So with cut teams the low man on the totem poll gets the **** job. He could have seen it made a stupid *** mistake and it all unfold as you suggest.
It still makes nascar look stupid and it makes that team look stupid.
That is odd. I have worked in racing garages at about half the nascar tracks and it is pretty common to see a pull like that. At least it was 20 years ago.

It’s still common. He’s raced there before when they had the pull down rope. They are still there in case of an electrical failure. He’s doubling down because his team got caught and NASCAR got caught trying to milk this.
Here is the SAME garage from last year with a different car in it. The door pull that looks like a noose is clearly visible. Reports are that there are many pulls at that track with a loop like that.
That team is going to be a laughingstock in NASCAR circles. Not because of anything to do with race but because this incident will hit every team in the pocketbook and it was easily avoidable had people simply acted responsibly.
