Its either Leland Conway or Terry Meiners and they are talking like Jurich and Pitino are untouchable in light of the UL housecleaning.

Jurich is definitely untouchable. Fans would burn the city if something happens to him. Pitino, not so much.

Ramsey would have been safe if he hadn't pulled the basketball team from the tourney. The dirty birds wanted to fight it like UNC.

Jurich is certainly difficult to FIRE. He however is very capable of leaving on his own to another job. He's had total free reign over his little fiefdom. The new guys in charge may be less likely to allow Jurich to do things like allow his hires to be a total embarrassment to the university. Hiring the neck-brace Bob and of course the keeping of a coach who had a brothel on campus. NO ONE in their right mind would allow their AD to continue to employ those people. The new President and Governor obviously are less willing to let the boys club continue. This was a BIG house cleaning and they will not stop at the board level. This is not over yet.

I can't believe UL fans are not calling or Pitino's head. Surely they could get a pretty good coach. Pitino caught lightning in a bottle in 2013, and isn't going to sniff another banner with the way he recruits.

The sad fact is there are really very few "total package" coaches out there these days, and like him or not, Pitino is one of them. But you bring up a great point--as second-tier as his recruiting has always been at Little Brother, his recruiting really seems to have taken a nosedive since they got into the ACC.

What's up with that? Shouldn't that league have helped their recruiting? Is it just all about the scandals that they've had since they went ACC? I don't pay too much attention to them except when we're embarrassing them.

Facts are stubborn things. Even Pitino has now said it was the right call.

I agree with you about the facts. Once Ramsey did the hard (correct) thing, the card faithful, faculty and some of the trustees no longer had his back. He was a dead man walking.

Certainly that is and has always been the case. The foundation boys club and their seeming rogue board has been the focal point of this. That said, the athletics side is just a symptom of the rogue administration. I think Bevin will put "academics first" board members in place. THEY will be the ones with concern as to the total shitstorm known as UofL athletics. Jurich will not be fired but will take a job elsewhere as the new sheriffs begin to reign in the excesses and embarrassment to the institution. This governor is not going to allow the UofL athletics to tarnish the reputation of the state of KY while he is in charge. He's not one to play games or patronage like the previous office holders. Of course those cronies were all on the same team.

Here is the statement from Governor Bevin's Facebook page. Read in to it what you will. It is clear to me that he is in fact worried about what is going on in UofL Athletics. In fact, it could be argued that the VAST MAJORITY of the bad light shed on the Commonwealth and UofL have come from athletics. That is the only driver of bad national attention...except of course the Sombrero photo that did make a splash on the internet. But the decisions of the Foundation hardly have made it out of Jefferson County.

There have been a number of incidents in recent months and years related to the University of Louisville that have shed less than the best of light on the University and the Commonwealth as a whole.

The University’s Board of Trustees, as it exists right now, is operationally dysfunctional. Its dysfunction has precluded it from being fiduciarily effective.

Today we are going to start putting the University of Louisville house in order. A fresh start is the right thing to do and is in the best interest of the students, faculty and staff.

The really ironic thing to me is that although Ramsey is (well...was) certainly responsible for everything that happens at the University, Jurich and especially Pitino were much closer on the totem pole of authority to the actual events. Of the 3 people I look at Ramsey as the least responsible.

Their fans don't care that they have a school, they just want to win games. In other words Jurich will stay and they will hire a president who's better at hiding all his/her nonsense.

That is sadly very true. They get the biggest thrill spouting their place on the most profitable athletics department list....not caring one iota as to their lousy academic reputation that was a fraction of an inch from keeping them out of the ACC. There always has been disagreement in the ACC about allowing them for exactly that reason. I have said a hundred times that they are a Potemkin Village of sports venues hiding their academics shortcomings.

Until this last election, the previous administrations have been cozy with the relationship. UofL does its thing in Jefferson County and UK is the flagship for the state. So the internal dealings of the board have gone without notice or challenge. The previous governors pay off their cronies by appointing them to boards where they rake in money....and everyone is happy...but the taxpayers who are getting screwed.

The previous Governors sat back and allowed the dirtiest deal in the history of the state (YUM Center) to happen because they did not care what was going on with the board. The board was busy figuring ways to funnel money from Shelby Campus back to other board members and of course Ramsey and his two gal pals were taking home millions. Ramsey became the top paid administrator in the ACC. Seriously? The worst academic institution has the highest paid president....who simply paid himself from the slush fund that they were continuing to build.

And while the board was doing all this..they allowed the Athletics Department to funnel money to their own pockets via the YUM Center scheme. That deal alone MUST BE REVIEWED...and hopefully will with the new Gov and the new board he puts in place. That deal is the financial scheme that should have put the signers of it behind bars...but of course...with the willing media in Louisville, we must not discuss this. And doncha know....UofL is the most profitable Athletics Dept in the nation.....

But then their arrogance and hubris and lack of oversight allowed a little thing to happen....the Katina Powell Brothel. And then suddenly people started to ask questions and wonder what was going on. And of course there was an election and a governor came into town who really does not have any ties to the cronies involved there.....and he doesnt seemed to be too worried about cleaning up the mess. So lets see where this goes. It may get very interesting still.

What did you expect them to say? These people are still living the grand delusion. They were in complete denial when the hooker scandal broke, and they will still be in denial when UL's house cleaning is finally over in another year or so.

1- Basketball is UL's national identity
2- Pitino is top 10 HOF coach
3- Jurich (by hook & crook) has built a sports super power
4- Goodbye Sacrificial RAM-sey

When the bad hooker news broke, President Ramsey awkwardly spoke out in public to defend Jurich before any facts had been investigated. That was a career ending mistake. From that moment on, Ramsey's resignation or firing was inevitable. Take a good look at Ramsey's letter of resignation. Board members are being dismissed, and UL's Board is being reorganized. As expected, Ramsey's letter suggests the reorganized Board will ultimately guide UL through this huge mess. NCAA penalties loom, but there is also a grand jury investigation. That means criminal charges. Business as usual is over in Louisville. It is too early to predict what the new Board will do about Jurich and Pitino, but a full housecleaning is the usual response when a school or a corporation gets into this much trouble. Any other response will increase their liability. UL can't control the investigation, so damage control is their only option now.

I know if I was even a decent recruit I wouldn't even pay UL a visit right now. Nobody knows what's going to happen to them in regards to sanctions.

Nope. They would take a holier than thou position and pound their chests that their university cleaned house because it's not morally bankrupt like UK and it's cheater coach.
AFTER, they burned down something

Before it is over I think both Lord Turtleneck and Pitino will be gone. Pitino is a stain on the reputation of UL.
Lord Turtleneck has had some shady deals. I have said for months that they need to clean house down on Floyd St.
Bevin has started the process, let's see if he will hire someone to finish the dirty work?

Unless more than what is already known about the hooker scandal comes to light, Pitino survives. If Pitino does leave UL, it will be his own choice.

What else do you want to come to light?? Asst coaches arranged prostitutes for players and their dads/guardians...the only other thing to come to light is that Rick was sleeping with them too and that is certainly not out of the question

It's totally true but I guess what I'm wondering about is what happened before the current situation.

In 2012 it was formally announced that UL would join the ACC in 2014. That should have boosted their recruiting. Then in 2014 they did join, should have boosted them more. The Powell scandal didn't surface till October 2015. That's three years they should have had stronger recruiting, with no scandal I can remember to gum things up. And I can't think of a single even moderately big target they landed in that time except that guy who liked to dunk and scream. That doesn't even seem like as good recruiting as before they joined the ACC. What's up with that? Am I just skewing the facts by not caring about them enough to really pay attention?

Plus didn't they win the title in 2013 against the weakest field ever which, you know, should have helped too?

Meiners has his head up SEXtino's ***..He is the lap dog..Jurich is the real control man..I think Pitino has something on Meiners' past to keep him in line..Meiners tried some threats with me 15 years ago when he started licking uavel boots..He said Pitino could have me taken care of..Looks like Pitino is the one in deep doo doo.:chairshot:

That seems pretty clear to me that your new Gov. is determined to set the UL ship back on the right tact. I guess what remains to be seen is will the new board fire Jurich and Pitino if the NCAA comes down with additional sanctions, and even if not in either case will Jurich particularly be able to exist with a board he actually has to answer to. And who knows maybe even a sports media in Louisville to.
