You're certainly entitled to your opinion but, based on what he has achieved and what he had to work with, Bob Hurley is the best high school coach IN THE COUNTRY.......and has been for years. HIs team with Bobby Hurley, Terry Dehere, Jerry Walker, and Rodrick Rhodes was the best I've ever seen.

I agree - that team was insane. My parents both taught at McCorristin at the time which had a VERY GOOD team. We drove up to see a game at the Armory and they just tore them apart. It was really something to behold.

You like it, but probably safe to say you or many of your coworkers wouldn't choose to live there. Yeah I am sure it's ok to head in for a nice ethnic lunch as you say , but the blight can't be good .

Only thing "safe to say" is that maybe you should ask questions instead of making assumptions. I have no desire to live that far away from Rutgers, which is the main reason I wouldn't consider living in Linden. I have several coworkers who live in Linden and they seem to like it. I don't see any obvious "blight" in the downtown area.

I happen to go there at the time and was a freshman. We didn't know what hit us. The 1st time we played them was actually at Ferris HS and again in the TOC. We lost to them 5 times in two years.

One little fact. Any school can "recruit". A public high school can charge out of district tuition if they want. Take a look at Rumson girls basketball in the days or Eastern field hockey.
Haddonfield HS today. You also got Audubon HS taking in any Camden County student and Sterling HS, who uses the ROTC as an excuse to get any Camden County as well.

Don't forget those charter schools, who can take any kid in their city.

Yes Hurley, because of his fame, is a walking recruiting tool because of what he has done due to his fame/record. But most of the kids that play ball at St. Anthony's are not in the local area. Would he be as successful if he was only to receive the students in the nearby area like non parochial schools? I don't know.

Yes agree that St. Anthony's would have closed down by now if not for him. Do you think his record had to do with his recruiting and or his fame that got top ranked kids from all over (not just Jersey) while Phil was not able to do that. Hurley is an incredible coach but in my opinion I think Phil is the better coach.
Isnt St Anthony about to close down after this school year after selling their building for one of those 30 story towers to be built?

Plum, I too am a Linden grad (currently living out of state) but try to get back at least once a year to take in a game. Not sure what you mean by "blight" or "down the tubes", but I have noticed very little difference over the past 5 or 10 years, and that includes walking from the train station to the LHS gym. I would not generalize by characterizing a few isolated incidents as blight or down the tubes. Just my opinion.

Perhaps I am mistaken.
