I know they don't call it anymore. I'm just saying that is how basketball is officiated now and takes away from the intent of the game/rules. Basketball is officiated so subjectively - always has been - but it is so much more now that it isn't hardly watchable.
Agree 100% but the very last statement. Call it by the book and the game would be hardly watchable. That play last night would have never happened. Go watch a YouTube clips of basketball from the 1940's or 50's. No thanks for me, not watching that style of play.
Its just to bad officials do't have the ability to instant replay and slow things down in their head LOL get over it
So 2 steps after the gather of the ball? Sounds legal to me, unless you want that taken away for layups too.
If you'd rather watch basketball from 20+ years ago there's nothing I can do to help you. That was an amazing athletic play by that kid from Christian. He didn't travel. It wasn't close.
So you can take steps while you are 'gathering the ball'? Pretty soon it'll be OK to flop. Oh wait, they don't call that either.
Yeah, you can. You can't travel if you don't have control of the ball. A player could technically bobble/mishandle the basketball all the way down the court without ever taking a dribble.
glad they shared the video, looked like a great play by the young man, to bad world is full of crappy haters who cry and try to rip down what look like a great game to watch, like most fans who cry they do not even know the rules Congrats to the kid and Good luck to all teams
Any criticism you've ever received is justified NUT. I wasn't ripping the kid. I said it looked like a travel. If anything I was commenting on officiating. If that's the way the game is called now, no thanks for me. I don't even follow basketball. One of the last games I went to about 10 years ago, a kid was driving to the basket and went up. He got hammered by 2 defenders - all 3 players ended up on the floor - loose ball and it goes the other way. No call. The other end of the court a touch foul was called on the very next possession. I was commenting more on the lack of consistency and the subjectivity in basketball officiating - at all levels. It would not surprise me in the least bit if a different set of officials were on the court a travel would have been called. And don't even get me started on carrying or palming the ball. Maybe that rule has changed or is interpreted now but the way kids bring the ball down the court when it's not a fast break but the guard is just 'dribbling' at mid court waiting for a play to develop just blows my mind. That's why I've lost interest in basketball. And while I'm at it - anyone, ANYONE, who claims Lebron is the greatest of all time better qualify that by saying he is the greatest cheater of all time. I've seen about 5 minutes of NBA this year and that flop he did a couple weeks ago was atrocious. And he got away with it. And in reading about it it sounds like its SOP for him. I was going to let this go but NUT - you got the best of me. You go on and keep pontificating like you do. Keep coming across like you think you are the smartest person on this board. Nobodies opinion is relevant unless you agree with it and validate it by saying they are correct. As for me - I'm done with this topic. Better yet, I'm done with this board. It's been dying a slow death the last couple years anyway. Thanks Alumni for all your work posting scores. I'll just have to wait a day now to find them in the paper. Later.

Say what you want about Nut, this board is better for him. Isn't debate, banter, and disagreement of opinion an underlying principle of these boards? About 10 years ago there was a guy on here that absolutely loved Akoy Agu and Omaha Central. Some of the threads involving Central kept going for weeks because of him. I remember a few in particular debating Mike Gessell vs Akoy Agu that really got the guy riled up. The debates is what draws people here. Not in a negative sense but a positive to have good discussion and keep things lively. It would be pretty boring if we just came here to check scores.
The softness of some people kill me any more, they want to make a statement and when someone disagrees with their opinion, they cry or run and quit. I thought this was the entire purpose of a discussion board, I mean come on it says it in the title (Discussion) Not the I get to say what I want and no one can disagree with me or give another opinion Board Most people don,t know how to handle life any more when you can't just block someone and you actually have to hear another opinion. I am sure in this soft world, some how this post is bulling or mansplaining or racism or insurrection or I need blocked or my account deleted unreal

The fact that there is a thread with this many comments about a very talented kid traveling or not traveling on a play that had zero effect on the outcome of the game is RIDICULOUS.
Can we talk about how the first 8 seconds of the clip are filmed with a potato?
