Tyler Ulis would come for for 300K.

He plays in the G-League making like 80K probably.
A) we don't know if Ulis has any desire to be a coach
B) Why would he be a good hire? He isn't a name any high school kid would recognize, he has never been a coach of any type

I'm not against bringing him on to UK's staff in some capacity, but absolutely not as the third assistant and bench coach.

what has he accomplished during his tenure?
who has he helped recruit?
the buddy system doesn't work in business & UK basketball used to be big business..not so much any more
more of a laughing stock now

I was really hoping for answers to my questions. Specifically, what has he failed to do? Specifically, which of his responsibilities has he underperformed at? Specifically, why does he need to be fired for cause?

I need someone, anyone, to give concrete reasons why some coaches are hated and others are loved. I’ve yet to get a decent answer. I’m beginning to think it’s based on some unknown perception, their look, a gut feeling, or someone mentions how much they love or hate a specific coach, and two people chime in with agreement, then 8 more, and before you know it everyone parrots the same opinion.

Who was Jai Lucas before he became an asst coach? He was a far more forgettable college player than Ulis, AND less recent.

But Lucas was young, smart, energetic, and could relate to kids.

I'm assuming Ulis would do that too- he's one of the smartest players I've ever seen play at Kentucky (Rondo may have him beat, not sure).

Not necessarily saying he should be option #1, but he would definitely bring an edge and a different dynamic to the staff, but is also in a similar mold to Jai Lucas.

My dream hire is an up and coming NBA assistant. When I say dream this is like a miracle of the highest order. Offer Johnnie Bryant of the Knicks 1.25 million per and see if he'd be interested. I think he's going to be a tremendous NBA head coach one day. Highly unlikely to happen though because he's probably on the verge of being a HC up there some time in the next 3-4 seasons.

Jerrance Howard would be good.

Rondo or Ulis would be great on the former player side.

Cal will make a good hire.
I like Ulis! He’s young, NBA experienced kid who played with a chip on his shoulder, tenacious, would recruit with a lot of swagger that would appeal to many recruits. I think he would recruit circles around Jai Lucas, who has now dissed us twice!

I hope they start to add mostly NBA guys:

Jalen Rose
Rajon Rondo
Tayshaun Prince
Chauncey Billups
Tony Delk

Guys from the category of competent and connected. That's what we need.

Give me a Kentucky guy, like John Phelphy. I would love to see someone with KY ties come in and re-generate our values and traditions of what Kentucky basketball is all about.
This transfer portal is total BS. All the NCAA has done is made every player a free agent. With the NIL money along with the transfer portal, I do not see college sports anywhere near what we all know it to be.
Money, money, money; everyone is out for themselves these days.

Joe B stuck with Coach Rupp until his time arrived; Denny Crum left UCLA to take over at UL, stayed there for years to build that program; Coach Keady at Purdue, Knight at IU, and on and on. Not these days, it is all about me and how much are you going to pay me.
This Lucas guy can leave and don't let the door hit you in the ***. He will leave Duke the same way. There is no loyalty left in sports.
My beloved Cubs finally win a World Series and that organization could wait to dismantle that team. Peyton Manning wins Super Bowls in Indiana, builds children hospitals and look what that club did to him.

I have said it many times, then days of hanging banners in Rupp with players and coaches names are gone.

I feel like we have enough coaches on the staff. I think this is a great time to get a former player, not necessarily UK, but someone with college and NBA experience.

We need a younger, cool coach to replace Jai. Maybe like Rondo, Jalen Rose, or someone like them? Neither are super young, but that level of player to relate to the team.
Jalen Rose isn’t going to give up his massive salary covering NBA for espn to be the Jai Lucas replacement on UK’s staff. There’s no chance.

It’s actually a realistic option though. You think Jalen Rose is coming? Tayshaun? Some of the names being floated are fantasy land.

John Lucas’ son and John Lucas III’s brother. Between AAU basketball and both coaching in the NBA right now, that’s some nice connections.

At one point, Jalen Rose was rumored to have been considered for a position. Is that a possiblity
LOL. No, there’s never been any such credible rumor. To the extent it’s been discussed here, it’s only because of dopes throwing out totally unrealistic names in message board posts.

And, no, it is not a realistic ā€œpossibility.ā€ Rose already has an extremely sweet and lucrative life as an ESPN guy. No way he’s giving that up to go be a college assistant.

I don’t see why Rose would have any interest. He is making $1.5-2 million at ESPN and has his own show. Leaving that for half the money (at least) to work 24/7 seems pretty dumb to me.

Maybe Tayshaun, but a) he’s not that young and b) would any high school player have any idea who he is?

I don’t think you make a guy an immediate assistant at UK unless he has experience, major connections and/or is a massive name.

Need to just leave this spot open for the family member or "mentor" of the best player in each class like every other school seems too. šŸ˜†
